You somehow get selected to cast one vote and one vote only for the baseball HOF.

You have only two names on the ballot.

Jeter

Rivera

Who ya got?

Rivera is a greater closer than Jeter is a short stop- but this question basically asks a Yankee fan which child do you love more. It is an impossible task and you can not go wrong with one or the other.

I'm sorry, as a huge fan of the Yanks I couldn"t choose, but this will never happen. An everyday player gets my vote before a Pitcher who goes to work in the 8th/9th inning. Plus, he is the Yankee captain. Who was the last one before Derek?

If you had one vote, I don't see how you couldn't give it to the most dominant closer ever.

I said Mariano. Jeter is great, but he's not the best shortstop of all time. Rivera is arguably, if not unanimously, thought of as the best closer of all time.

As a Red Sox fan I was much more afraid of Rivera than I was Jeter. So Mo gets my vote. It won't matter, however because both deserve and will be Hall of Famers.

I've gotta go with Jeter, it's just instinctive even if it's not right.

Hey Joe, your BoSox have handled Mo as well if not better than anyone.

As for the question, as a Yankee fan of course there are reasons for both. I am just glad that they will, or should both go in first ballot. Mo - the best reliever/closer ever, Jeets- THE capt., is on top an close to the top in several all time NYY records list, and some names there are Ruth, Gehrig, Berra, Mantle and on and on. I honestly cannot chooe but IF just one I'll take Jeter, besides a Yankee icon, imo Jeter is the face of mlb baseball right now.

For over a decade, it's hard enough to stay in the mix as an MLB player, let alone a Yankee. Just think about all of the future HOF's that have came and gone as Yankee's during his time there....

After some thought the best comparison I can think of is some what football related. Mariano to me is more like a kicker, sure he may one of the best at getting points inside the 50 or in this case keeping them off the board late. On the other side though you have Jeter's that's been a consistent weapon/leader, he's like the Peyton manning of football he just really can't get the numbers because the games are completely different. Atleast that's how I see it. I'd give the nod to Manning over a kicker or safety any time and without hesitation. Leaders are what you build your team around, not guys that come off the bench with a lead and you say ok now don't lose it for us. I'm not trying to down play Mariano(though I'm sure I am), he's probably the greatest closer ever, but I just can't pick him over Jeter.

Mariano and it's not even close. You can get another Jeter. Especially the Yankees. You can't get another Mariano. You must have great pitching to win a World Series. You must especially have a great closer. I have never heard a team say we must have a great shortstop to win the World Series. Point being.....I believe the Yanks still win all of their 'Jeter-led' rings without Jeter but not without Mariano.

Exactly why I voted for Mariano as well. There has been many great shortstops and there will continue to be many. There will not be many great closers likes Mariano. Not taking anything away from Jeter, but its easy for me.

They are both first ballot HOFers IMHO.
