September 3, 201115 yr I don't understand how anyone says Palmer reporting sticks it to Mike Brown. That is a dream come true for Mike Brown and completely vindicates how he has handled the situation. Mike Brown would like nothing better than for Palmer to report. That is a big "I told you so" for Mikey. In addition, Palmer at QB will immediately make the Bengals a legit .500 team and with the weak schedule, quite possibly an over .500 team. The only person Palmer sticks it to by reporting is himself, if he truly doesn't want to play in Cincinnati. Because when he reports, he better be ready to put on his helmet and play for the Bengals. There will be no clipboard holding. Give him one or two weeks to get in game shape and up to snuff on the offense and he is your starting QB. And he has no choice but to play. If he reports and says I am not going to play, then Mikey gets to enjoy the one area where he never loses, a court battle.

Palmer could wait all the way up till the week before the trade deadline if he wanted. Which I believe is Week 7 or 8? If he comes in that late they won't start him, so they would be forced to trade him or pay him to hold a clipboard.

If he comes in that late they won't start him, so they would be forced to trade him or pay him to hold a clipboard. Palmer has no leverage. Either he sits out or he reports ready to play for the Bengals. As to whether he would play, that would all depend on how the team and Dalton are doing at that point. If the team and Dalton are playing well, then Palmer may not start. But it is doubtful Dalton will be playing that well. But if he is, more than likely, Palmer would still be stuck in Cincinnati the rest of the season. Palmer has to hope a contending team loses their QB, gets desperate and is willing to trade a #1, and the Bengals and Dalton are playing winning football and all this needs to happen prior to the deadline. Needle, meet haystack. Beyond the perfect scenario like above, the only way Palmer is getting out of Cincinnati is to be true to his word and stay in California till they trade him ... and be ready to wait a couple of years if necessary.

September 3, 201115 yr If I heard correctly, all he has to do is report for 11.5 million dollars guaranteed? I know he already said he had enough money to last the rest of his life, but 11.5 million dollars isn't something to turn your nose up at. They could probably cut him. Not sure how much of his guaranteed money he has left if any.
September 4, 201115 yr Interesting...I don't think it is because he has had a change of heart. Maybe he is just letting Mike Brown know that hey I am just going to show up one of these days to make you pay me to sit the bench, or to trade me. So your best off trying to trade me now, unless you want a 11 million dollar clip board holder. Why does everyone think he is going to sit around and do nothing? You guys realize he can't just show up and do nothing and get paid. VOR is right on. If he reports he moves up the depth chart quickly.

Whats to say he comes back and in his first week of practice, "pulls a muscle"... They can't fine him if he says he is not heathly enough to play... I'm pretty sure the players union would back him on that...
September 4, 201115 yr How could anyone think that if he did report he automatically becomes the starter? I could see if Brat was still the O coordinator but Dalton and Gradkowski have weeks and years of knowledge of Gruden's offense while CP would have none. I just hope if he does come back that Mikey gets something rather than nothing.
September 4, 201115 yr Hype created by the Bengals and their "friends" to build some enthusiasm for the upcoming season. There is none now. Palmer and Mike Brown will both stick to their guns.

Maybe not in one week, but I would think he could be equipped enough quickly. Also, if he does not want to play, Mikey can stick it to him even more by playing him. If on the field the worst thing for his future (assuming he wants to play in the future) is to stink it up. Edited September 4, 201115 yr by bugatti
