August 24, 201115 yr Nice comeback win for the Reds thanks to 2 rookies. Will Dusty reward Yonder with a start tomorrow in the DH? Can't see Alonso playing LF in Miami, and can't see Votto sitting again tomorrow night despite the DH. DH? Why is there a DH tomorrow vs. the Marlins?
August 24, 201115 yr Author DH? Why is there a DH tomorrow vs. the Marlins? Because of Hurricane Irene. They decided to move up Thursday's scheduled game, and play a DH tomorrow.
August 24, 201115 yr Anybody have the first game lineup. Homer is pitching and the Reds are slight favorite.
August 24, 201115 yr Anybody have the first game lineup. Homer is pitching and the Reds are slight favorite. Probably not for another hour. Game isn't till 4:10.
August 24, 201115 yr Thinking ahead to next year....I'm thinking at the end of the day, the Reds are not going to move either Alonso or Votto. They'll work with Yonder in either LF or 3B (a lot depends on Rolen), and you'll see him be plugged in one of those two for better or worse. I'm also of the belief that Rolen is going to hang it up. I think we'll see an Opening Day lineup of: C - Devin Mesoraco 1B - Joey Votto 2B - Brandon Phillips SS - Zack Cozart 3B - Alonso/Francisco LF - Alonso/Free Agent signing (Ludwick?) CF - Drew Stubbs RF - Jay Bruce
August 24, 201115 yr Game 1 lineup posted on Better off Red Brandon Phillips 4 Dave Sappelt 7 Joey Votto 3 Jay Bruce 9 Ramon Hernandez 2 Drew Stubbs 8 Todd Frazier 5 Edgar Renteria 6 Homer Bailey 1
August 24, 201115 yr If Alonso keeps hitting between now and the end of the season, his trade value is likely to be as high as it's ever been. In that case, the Reds would be well-advised to deal him.

August 24, 201115 yr Where are they going to play him? That's a very valid concern but I think I might sacrifice some D in LF or at 3rd possibly if Rolen is gone. 3rd would be the best option IMO. I would want something pretty solid in return for him if he continues to hit.

August 24, 201115 yr That would be quite a defensive sacrifice. Why couldn't the Reds trade Alonso for a decent outfielder or shortstop? That's fine if they can get that but I am skeptical someone will trade us something of value at either position for him. Playing him at third pretty much eliminates his lack of speed. With some work you have to believe he can figure out how to get some ground balls.
