August 22, 201115 yr It's clear Sappelt doesn't have what it takes to play everyday at this level. No where close... Why not put Frazier in LF and give Alonso a chance at 3B for a few games and see what he's like over there? It's not like it'll hurt them in the division title race... Wow you can tell Sappelt doesn't have what it takes based on only a handful of games? You need to be a scout for the Reds if you can tell these things that quickly. The amount of games he has played is not a good indication at all on how to tell if he can play at this level. Just like if he had came up here and did great at first, would not mean people know for sure that he is ready for this level either. It's way to small of a sample size to tell at this point. We have seen it both ways, guys who struggled at first then ended up doing pretty well, and guys who start off great and then end up doing nothing in their careers. It's all about preparing and making adjustments at this level, and its to early to tell if he will be able to do that or not. The guy needs to play much more before we come to a conclusion if he can play every day at this level.

I'll be glad to revisit my statement if he ever becomes a productive everyday player in the major leagues. I'd bet against that happening though.

I am not saying you are wrong, he may never become a productive everyday player. However it is WAY TO EARLY to tell based on just a few games. As I said there are plenty of guys who have LOOKED GREAT in their first few games in their major league careers. Then end up being nobody's after that, way to early to make a call either way on guys after just a few games. Sometimes it takes players awhile to adjust to the major leagues, if you based this judgement after a few months or half a season then I could see your argument a little bit. However even then it is to early to tell, but at least you would have more to base it on.
August 23, 201115 yr They have to find a way to get Alonso in the lineup on a regular basis... I was just going to say that.
August 24, 201115 yr They have to find a way to get Alonso in the lineup on a regular basis... He'll go back to the bench tomorrow and you won't see him except to pinch hit for another 7-10 days. This team doesn't need his offense.
August 24, 201115 yr Just a terrible offensive performance after loading the bases with 0 outs, just awful!!!
August 24, 201115 yr Author Sappelt with 3 hits tonight, including a big 2 run double in the 9th to tie the game at 6.
August 24, 201115 yr Nice comeback win for the Reds thanks to 2 rookies. Will Dusty reward Yonder with a start tomorrow in the DH?
August 24, 201115 yr Author Nice comeback win for the Reds thanks to 2 rookies. Will Dusty reward Yonder with a start tomorrow in the DH? Can't see Alonso playing LF in Miami, and can't see Votto sitting again tomorrow night despite the DH.
