August 19, 201115 yr Or maybe he is trying to get Sappelt fastballs by batting him second. I am not sure what facing a right handed pitcher has to do with the catcher choice. He's using the same lineup he used last night against the lefty with Hanigan being the only change. Sorry you couldn't figure that out.
August 19, 201115 yr The brilliance of Dusty Baker justs blows me away. Same lineup he used last night only changing the catcher in his lineup tonight versus the right hander. Fisrt pitch hitting Sappelt in the 2 hole again. What makes Sappelt a good 2 hitter? He doesn't give a leadoff guy a chance to even think about stealing a base. I guess Dusty was satisfied with the 2 runs this lineup generated last night. Oh well I hope Jocketty is making note of all these quirky things that Dusty does. Brandon Phillips isn't the same runner he used to be. It doesn't matter that Sappelt swings at the first pitch. Phillips isn't stealing anyway...
August 19, 201115 yr Paul Janish sucks today, tomorrow and next week. Why not pinch hit for him and move Cairo to short?
August 19, 201115 yr Brandon Phillips isn't the same runner he used to be. It doesn't matter that Sappelt swings at the first pitch. Phillips isn't stealing anyway... He may not be but Dusty has him batting leadoff and had him going tonight the 2nd time he reached base. A 2 hitter has to be willing to take a few pitches to give a leadoff guy a chance to maybe get a pitch he can run on.

BP is a hit an run guy now, plain and simple.
August 19, 201115 yr Not if the leadoff hitter isn't a stolen base threat. BP is a hit an run guy now, plain and simple. I wouldn't say that he can't steal, he does have 8 on the season.
August 19, 201115 yr Sure glad this team straightened out their offensive problems over the weekend with that big offensive game they had.
August 19, 201115 yr He's using the same lineup he used last night against the lefty with Hanigan being the only change. Sorry you couldn't figure that out. Stick Hanigan's 4 for 4 in your "sorry you can't figure it out" EZ. I am sorry your ignorant comment flew in your face tonight. The reason I questioned your comment is because both Hanigan and Hernandez bat right handed. So it makes no difference from that angle whether the opposing team's starter is left or right handed. Who catches has nothing to do with which arm the other team's starter throws with. Hopefully that helps you figure that out.
August 19, 201115 yr That's false. Okay excuse me! I heard goofball Welsh say he had 8 and was thrown out 9 times. He acually has 7 and was thrown out 8 times. Is that better statman?

I have no idea what the heck you are going off on here but I am sorry that you misread the quote. The quote said that he used the same lineup EXCEPT for the catcher. The implication was that he didn't go with lefties versus the right hander, ie. Lewis or Alonso over Sappelt. It had nothing to do with who the catcher was. 1. Phillips, 2B 2. Sappelt, LF 3. Votto, 1B 4. Bruce, RF 5. Cairo, 3B 6. Stubbs, CF 7. Hernandez, C 8. Janish, SS 9. Cueto, P (lineup versus lefty Detwiler) 1. Phillips, 2B 2. Sappelt, LF 3. Votto, 1B 4. Bruce, RF 5. Cairo, 3B 6. Stubbs, CF 7. Hanigan , C 8. Janish, SS 9. Arroyo P (lineup versus righty Zimmerman)
August 19, 201115 yr Battle for 4th place begins in Pittsburgh tonight. Dusty stacks the lefties up 2-3-4. 1. Brandon Phillips ® 2B 2. Fred Lewis (L) LF 3. Joey Votto (L) 1B 4. Jay Bruce (L) RF 5. Todd Frazier ® 3B 6. Drew Stubbs ® CF 7. Ryan Hanigan ® C 8. Paul Janish ® SS 9. Homer Bailey ® P
