Hernandez has already been waived, evidently ... it takes three days to pass through waivers. If no one claims him, the Reds are free to deal him elsewhere. If a team is awarded the claim, the Reds have 48 hours, I think, to make a deal.

They knew they had Votto at first base when Alonso was drafted. You don't think that if Alonso was capable of learning another position, the Reds would have tried him somewhere else?

I assume the Reds felt that Alonso was the best pure hitter left in the draft and viewed him as either a hedge against Votto. Or maybe they thought they would be able to deal one of them once Alonso was ready.

 

If they really thought Votto and Alonso could be in the lineup together, they would be working out Votto in the outfield again or Alonso would have been playing third base or left field all along.

I have no idea. :lol: He has to play somewhere so they need to figure it out. I guarantee Votto could play outfield. He just doesn't want to that's why they aren't doing it. How can you deal a guy and get something of value if you never give him a chance to play? He has to play period, you have to give him a chance at whatever position for a few months to really find out. The Reds aren't willing to do that. How did no one in AAA not figure out he can't play LF??

Maybe they're waiting for what they think is a good offer. There is no law that says the Reds have to trade him as soon as they think he's ready.

He has been playing in the OF this year in the minors? Just because they did it doesn't mean they did it well. Bottom line is they can hide him somewhere if he keeps hitting that's all I am saying.

I think Alonso can get at least the same point defensively as Dunn and Gomes.
