If A&M leaves, what about Clemson joining them? They'd be a fit. Guessing the same infringement rights FSU faces would preclude this?

 

What about Houston? Bring in one of the nations biggest TV markets, and really step on no one's toes.

 

Missouri seems like a better fit for the Big 10, mostly for academic reasons.

 

OU and OSU seem like better fits for the PAC conference, but I wouldn't mind seeing them in a SEC merger.

Texas will land on its feet. If the Big 12 falls apart, they'll likely be Big 10 bound, but the Longhorn network thing is going to have to be addressed.

Looks like Nebraska beat the rest of the Big 12 to the punch. They knew that the conference didnt have much stability and they were also tired of Texas basically getting whatever they wanted within the conference. The commish Dan Beebe is maybe the worst commissioner in all of sports and a front man for UT. I said last year when my huskers left that Id be suprised if the Big 12 lasted 5 more years and Im still sticking to that.

 

This whole Longhorn Network and letting them show Texas high school football games in the future is just one big recruiting tool for UT.

After thinking about it, I agree with you. Posting after a game is something I do not suggest, :lol:. UF is the king of excuses, being scared of competition, and trying to be #1 in the state without proving it. If they could not only would they block FSU from the SEC, but they would drop them from the schedule all together. How anyone that is not a UF grad could respect Jeremy Foley or the rest of their Athletic staff (not necessarily the coaches) I have no idea. This garbage started with Spurrier, and every year it gets worse.

 

Key stat that backs up your thinking: UF has not played an OOC opponent that they had to play on the road (other than the U and FSU) since 1992. That was Syracuse. That is pathetic considering they don't even play the U every year or every other year. Play somebody!!!

I absolutely hate this, the SEC is the perfect size right now, already makes enough money, and has proven they can compete with anyone in just about any sport they choose. Why mess with that?

A&M brings in the Houston market. They have a considerably bigger fan base in Houston than UH does. Texas is a distant second in terms of fan loyalty in Houston, and then UH competes with Rice for the majority of the fans that are left over.

 

I like bringing in Clemson and Florida St., so I hope they follow. If you can not get Florida St., maybe you make a run at Central Florida- I always felt like that program is a sleeping giant. Maybe a jump to the SEC expedites the process, plus you get the second Florida school without upsetting UF's apple cart.

Not surprising. The SEC doesn't want to come across as the bad guy here. I think sending A&M back to get the legal issues lined out also allows the SEC a little extra time to choose a 14th school.

Zero chance on UL. WVU would be way down the list but not totally out of consideration...

Leave it be! Why change anything, its fine like it is. Uof L won't fit its staduim is too small and we have to have Vandy and the Mississippi schools so adding the Cards would not work.

A bunch of legalities to work out here. The SEC is doing all that it can not to get sued. They key premise though is that A&M reached out to the SEC and not vice versa.

 

Frankly, I really don't want to see the conference expand but it is coming sooner rather than later.

 

TV contracts are one issue. Fox has a big deal with the Big 12 and ESPN has one as well. ESPN has one with the SEC and that is going to take some time to work through. There you have a conflict. The Big 12 will be down to 9. Quite possibly that voids the deal between the Big12 and ESPN, but there is the conflict of ESPN's relationship with the SEC.

 

I don't think the SEC will invite the Aggies until they withdraw. The president of A&M will likely be given that authority tomorrow, but then A&M has to meet up with the state legislature in Texas as well.

 

The SEC people are getting together Wednesday, so we may see some movement on that front.

 

With all the haggling amongst the TV contracts, I suspect the 14th member to the SEC will likely be a school from the Big 12. That very school could be Texas Tech.

 

Then again, things could remain the same.

Wasn't aware A&M was the top dog in the Houston market, changes my thought process some. I do remember that Houston competed well in the old SWC, and thought the school may be too big for C-USA. Personally, if I'm the SEC I look at Houston before a school like UCF. But, that's from the outside looking in. Maybe Houston isn't the fit I thought they could be.

 

As for Clemson, I guess that wasn't as big a shot in the dark as I thought.

 

GT, why would West Virginia be low on the SEC's list? Seems to me they'd be a pretty good fit.
