Defense is important, but it didn't win them the division. Hitting with RISP and pitching won the division, neither of which the Reds are doing this season.

 

Both games he started were one run losses and he arguably cost them 2 runs in each game. Baseball is much too complicated to pin a loss on one play but there is no doubt his play in LF has hurt them much more than he has helped them at the plate in the games he started there. Again, as stated above, at this point, I say go ahead and play him because the season is over. If the Reds were 3 games back and Alonso was starting out there, I would be joining LRCW, EZ and others in ranting for Dusty to be fired.

They are a combined 2-20something with RISP in those 2 one run losses. That has much more to do with losing than him misplaying the ball yesterday and playing it safe and not diving for a ball in Houston.

 

As I said, yesterday those two runs would have scored on the very next pitch when Ramirez hit a double so what difference would it have made when the runs scored?

 

In Houston he broke back on the ball instead of in...it happens to every outfielder. But neither case cost them the game at all.

 

I'd like to see how he does out there over an extended period rather than a 2 game sample because there's no doubt he'll help this team offensively.

 

And no one brings up the very nice play he made in LF at GABP his first game in LF as a major leaguer...

I feel bad for those of you who still watch this team on a daily basis. The reds are dead to me once football starts.

I did not think so a week ago but I now do believe this team has quit. Yes, the players are under performing and that's on them. I just don't believe they like Dusty. Last year things went their way and the hatred of Dusty was not a issue. Just as soon as things start going against the Reds the hatred surfaces. I have played many organized sports and have been involved in high school basketball for 25 years. If the players don't like their manager/coach they just won't put out the same effort therefore effecting wins and losses.

Did you watch yesterday's game? Have you been watching games this past week? The Reds have battled from behind to get close in game after game. They have not quit. They just aren't good which sometimes makes it look like they have quit. When your starting pitcher can't get through the fourth inning like today, you are going to look really bad. I don't think the team has quit and I don't think they dislike Dusty. They are using a number of AAA players to try to win games and I think they just aren't very good.

They fall behind almost every game because the pitchers give up first inning runs and thr Reds can't score early. Then they lose by one run because of some stupid play or a bad move by Dusty. They go on this road trip against the two worst teams in the league and only win one game. In my opinion they are not playing very inspired.

For the offense is fine folks. They were 25-17 at one point scoring 5.35 while allowing 4.40 per game. Since then they're 29-42 scoring 4.24 per while allowing 4.41.
