Just goes to show, it doesn't matter if you swing at good pitches. Do you mean like Cairo just did fresh off the bench and swings at the first pitch after Alonso went to 3-1 with him.

In the four pitches Alonso saw he only had two to hit and one was 3-0. If Alonso sees the 3-2 pitch at 0-0 and swings it's not a problem either. No hitting coach worth a darn will tell you to wait for a better pitch than one you've seen. They ALL tell you that you may only see one good pitch to hit per AB and you swing at it regardless when you get it. Of course, there are some acceptions like if a guy is struggling to find the strike zone.

Their level of concentration leaves a lot To be desired. You can go back to June, when the players were all saying that they would be ok, and things would turn. Dusty has not assumed any ownership over their play whatsoever. His insistence n playing Lewis over Alonso is funny. The kid is a big league hitter and supposedly was brought up here to hit. Yet he sits 2 of every 3 games.I Votto is a space cadet and continues to make lolly gagging plays. Tonight was a killer in not playing that bunt well.
August 4, 201115 yr Freaking Astros. That hurts. I'm starting to waver. Waver? Like I said in the other thread, they've been done for 2 weeks. If the Brewers play .500 baseball the rest of the season they'll finish with 87 wins. For the Reds to match that they'd have to go 33-18, or win at a .647 clip just to tie. The Phillies have the best winning percentage in baseball--and it's just .645. So basically if the Reds suddenly become the best team in baseball for 2 months they have to hope that the Brewers play at or below .500 to have any chance....It is time to start playing the youngsters and players that need extended looks to see if they are in future plans. I think it was a big mistake not trying to move Hernandez, Cordero, Renteria etc at the trading deadline so some of their prospects could get more playing time.

He has held team meetings to try and get things shook up and/or focused. When you can't execute on the field, you look lethargic, unenthusiastic, aloof, _______ (insert similar adjective here). I see guys trying every night but they can't get it done. The fact is the Reds just aren't getting it done on the field. Their hitting with runners in scoring position is horrible and basically costs them game after game after game. You say play Alonso but the one game he started, he contributed to the loss more than anyone by not being able to catch the ball in left field. They have to pinch run for the guy when he gets pinch hits late in games. The guy is the reincarnation of Sean Casey. Would you want Sean Casey in left field? You're right, he was brought up here to hit ... not play in the field. He is the left handed bat late in games and he is doing a nice job of that. He is not the answer in left and I don't think he was brought up to be the answer in left. The only way to salvage this road trip is to sweep Chicago. At a minimum, the Reds needed to win these two series (4-2) if not sweep one and win the other (5-1). Lose one game in Chicago and these two series are disasters.
August 4, 201115 yr I saw this on the web. More proof of how inept Alonso is in left and why he isn't getting PT: Yonder Alonso began taking ground balls at third base on Tuesday. "Maybe I can get in there and, obviously, it will give me more value to the team if I can do that," Alonso said. "Third base was my position growing up. It comes easier than the other two positions." Alonso is 3-for-8 at the plate since being called up on July 26, but he's started just one game, so we're fine with whatever will get his bat in the lineup more often. The Reds are looking for alternatives at the hot corner following Scott Rolen's shoulder surgery.

What happened to letting pitchers pitch more than 7 innings? He pulled Bronson the night before and Willis last night and look what happened. Masset has chocked in these situations all year but Dusty keeps throwing him out there to blow saves and lose games.

They crushed those two bunts off Masset. He gave up 3 hits and 2 were on bunts when they were trying to give the Reds outs. You're wrong.

You can't ask for much more than 8 innings/3 runs from Bronson at this point. It was time for him to come out... Not sure why Willis was pulled, but from what I saw he didn't know where the ball was going and was getting hit hard all night.
