August 3, 201115 yr What it comes down to is that a team like the Pirates needs EVERYTHING to go their way in order to pull off the impossible. This call did not and it could've been the first time all season that the Pirates felt something didn't go their way. It most certainly could've taken the hope that everything would go in their favor completely out of their mind as a possibility. Now, not really an excuse for losing 6 of your last 7 but definitely could take a toll on their psyche. I think when you're in those situations as an underdog you're looking for that one sign that the ride is coming to an end. A "Well, there it went" moment. This could've been it for the Pirates.

August 4, 201115 yr It's funny you say that because if you go back and look at some of the most egregious calls made in baseball history, there was usually a next game(s) where the shafted team lost. 1975 - World Series Game Three - the Ed Armbrister interference or lack of interference call in the 10th inning that cost the Red Sox the game How were the Red Sox shafted? The correct call was made. Fisk had plenty of time to make a throw.

However, going back and looking at the play I think it was closer to an interference call than not--but I don't think it was clear-cut either way. With it happening in game 3 it certainly did not cost the Red Sox the Series. In fact, they had all the momentum after Fisk's homer in Game 6.
September 23, 201114 yr One thing you have to do is hand it to major league umpire leaders and the league; they will admit mistakes and discuss publicly how devestating it is to these guys to make those miatakes. For one it gives fans a real prespective of how hard they want things to be correct!
September 23, 201114 yr It was only a matter of time for Pittsburgh. When you look at their team, especially their offense, the fact they are even in a race right now is one of the more amazing things I can think of in baseball in recent years. The Pirates are 16-39 since the call :lol: They are who they are.
