The Reds are a "huge disappointment" this year because the PLAYERS haven't delivered like they did a year ago. Easy to pin that on the manager and second guess every move or decision. Doesn't show much baseball acumen, but it is easy. So you have that going for you...

 

Some managers/coaches can only take a team so far. How many years was Pete Rose the bridesmaid? Sweet Lou came in a year later, and took them all the way. I think the Reds won last year despite Dusty. The point you tried to make was that a manager isn't going to be fired unless his team fails, and that I couldn't root for the Reds to win, and want Dusty to be fired at the same time. You were wrong.

Isn't it possible they are a disappointment for more reasons than just the players? It's weird that the Cubs let him go after the Giants let him go if he's so good. I'd say the players and manager are both having a bad season along with the gm waiting way too long to address the disaster they had at SS and LF.

The funny thing is Dusty gets all of the blame for this team being a .500 level club and none of the credit for them winning the division a year ago after 15 years of misery. They won in spite of him last year, and are still much better than when he arrived now even though they are struggling. Bad maner. Weakest link. Not on the players who can't deliver. Blah. Blah. Blah.

Is that usually what happens when a team struggles and they don't live up to expectations? I could have sworn there's usually a fall guy or two. If Walt was so confident in Dusty all along he sure did wait an awfully long time to extend him. As far as players go they have sent struggling players down or traded them so it's not like they've stood pat everywhere.

How can they not be better than they were when he arrived. Do you honestly want to compare the talent Pre Dusty to the talent the Reds have now? Coach Brooks had to deal with scholarhship reductions. I don't see Dusty having to deal with any such a problem. Not even close to the same thing.

There's one thing to say he needs to be the fall guy but it's completely different to say he doesn't have a clue what he's doing while he's managed many successful teams. I mean, he's top 25 in all-time wins as a manager.

Dusty does remind me a lot of Grady Little. A good players manager, not very good at handling a pitching staff, nonsensical lineups etc. You can win with either if they are given a team with talent but they don't really get anything extra out of that talent and might cost the team a few wins. With the team being so inconsistant this season they can't afford for the manager to cost them games like he did last night. He's certainly not the worst manager out there but he's not an upper tier manager either. It isn't fair but sometimes dumping the manager of a talented but under-acheiving team can create a spark. Like the Red Sox in 1988 with Joe Morgan or the Rockies in 2007.

I will throw in my 2 cents here. I don't care what happens this year he is not getting fired. They are paying him to much money to sit on his couch in June and July collecting a pay check and not managing this club. Simple as that.
