I hate it when I'm right. The "toothpick" has to be the most hard-headed manager I have ever seen in the big leagues. Just flat out stupid the way he handled the end of the staff this weekend.

what happened to the talk of Cordero not getting enough cred? Just recently I remember lots of chatter about him being one of the best closers in the league and not getting enough credit...Willis had first inning jitters but after that he was on cruise control, I love his emotion and believe he along with Cueto, Leake and Bailey should form a pretty good punch in the second half...Now the offense has been getting the lead, just need someone to close the door whether it be Bray, Ondrusek, Masset, Chapman, Arredondo or LeCure I don't really care I just know that it doesn't need to be Cordero everynight...Go with who is freshest, I hate the closer position in baseball...

It's not as much living and dying that I have the issue with today. It's (as you mentioned yesterday) that he died with him today after using him yesterday with a 5 run lead. That's absurd. He had thrown over 50 pitches in two days giving up 4 runs and only recording 5 outs. Massett had thrown 18 pitches the last two days.

I was busy with other things earlier so I just finished watching it on dvr. Should anyone had watched this and think that Dusty Baker knows how to handle a pitcher/pitching staff did not see this game. There is no way that this loss (along with many others) cannot be pegged 110% on Baker. There is really nothing left to toss about on this loss imo. I believe that with his handling of a pitching staff (on previous teams he was with ss well as this one), Dusty "toothpick" Baker has to have a gps unit to find the pitchers mound or bullpen. Bakers logic make you wonder what those toohpicks are really coated with.

Should the Reds keep this guy then I think it should be under the understanding that management, not Dusty, hire a pitching coach and give him full control over the pitching staff incluiding choosing a rotation, bullpen and any and all decisions to do with pitching.

 

The Reds are not finished for the season but give Dusty a little more time and he will get the job done.

Dusty showing once again just how big of an idiot he is. Co Co has thrown 51 pitches the past two days. Masset had the day off yesterday. No sense running Co Co back out there today. And I agree Gomes should be DFA'd.

AS much as I like DTrain, if the Reds rely on him every 5th day, they are headed the wrong direction. Long relief is his role IMO. If everyone is healthy, he's a pen guy.

That is on target SSC. I actually liked Baker bringing Cordero in with the 5 run lead Saturday. It got him right back out there against the team that beat him the night before and regardless of how it went down, Cordero closed out the game. That was a positive for his head set. The other thing it did was set things up perfectly for Baker to use someone else to close on Sunday. I like Dusty but running Cordero out there again Sunday was wrong. It was wrong for the team and it was wrong for Cordero. That being said, IMO Cordero is still the closer in every save situation that he isn't too used up to handle. Every closer in baseball blows saves and Cordero is no different. There are two closers in the All Star game that have as many blown saves as Cordero. Cordero has 5 blown saves now. There are 25 pitchers in major league baseball with 4 or more blown saves including Rivera, Wilson, Kimbrel, Capps, Walden, Marmol, Putz ... Nick Masset has 3 blown saves. Cordero is still the closer but he should not have been on the mound Sunday.

I just think he's not got the same stuff he once had, obviously, and he missed within the zone ALOT and got away with it. He actually had two strikeouts that he totally missed the mark and one that Hernandez nearly missed because he was set up on the corner. I don't know, he didn't pass the look test for me. All I can say is I could care less about the numbers, his stuff looked flat to me.

we must have watched different games...in the first two innings he looked flat, then he picked it up with a 91 mph fb that was moving and his nasty slider and what looked like a nasty soft curve...He made a filthy pitch to Fielder...Also keep in mind he wasn't on his normal schedule which is why he started out rusty...Willis>EV just based on his hitting and emotion, ill gladly take him as my number 5 at least he is entertaining and I think he can keep at least an era in the 3.5 to 4 range...
