May 16, 201115 yr Quicker than he is so that he doesn't get BP killed with a hard slide. Those balls were hit hard enough that a little league shortstop could have gotten rid of it quicker. You don't have to wait until he gets to the bag to give him the ball. Rolen doesn't wait that long all the way across the diamond. On the ball Brandon threw away a few days ago and the play today, he had plenty of time to throw before getting hit with the slide. He tries to jump to avoid the slide while throwing. If he simply threw the ball then avoided the slide he would have such a problem. He tries to showboat and he's lucky it didn't cost the team. You can say what you want about looking at the replays so many times. I saw both plays and he had plenty of time to throw the ball before being effected by a hard slide.
May 16, 201115 yr Anyone know why a fan at GABP can't wear a full body suit but can bring a broom? Probably because it's easier to conceal a weapon, or alcohol wearing a full body suit than it is carrying a broom.

I didn't say that he didn't have enough time to make a good throw. Imo he should have gotten an error on both throws but he only got an error the other day. I just said that I think that if Janish doesn't start getting the ball to him quicker he is going to get him killed. Everybody has anointed Janish the Red's version of Ozzie Smith and he clearly is no where near that great a defensive player imo. He is a good defensive player but nowhere near some of our shortstops of the past.
May 16, 201115 yr I too thought the ball could have got to BP faster, but BP knew he was going to get hit and made a bad throw. As far as Baker goes. I'm not the biggest fan of his. He makes decisions that at times leave me scratching my head. But I don't worry about them anymore. I know he's going to make decisions I hate, but I also know his players love him and he made the playoffs last year. The Cubs fans said he kills young pitchers and stays with veterans too long. Since he's been here he's babied pitchers and stuck with all of his starters too long no matter what their age was. Maybe tha's not a bad thing. He stayed with Bruce and Stubbs way too long last year in some of our eyes and it's worked out great. Harang is the only pitcher IMO that has any complaint towards Dusty and I'd say it's 50/50 that Harang just isn't that great. I would despise being a Cards fan. That team whines and complains about everything. I guess when you're manager is the biggest baby in baseball it trickles down.

May 16, 201115 yr I had to go to a funeral yesterday and didnt' get to watch the sweep, but it certainly made my day when I got home and saw that they did. And was very glad to see that Chris Heisey got an HR. If Carpenter has a problem with the smoke...don't give up the HR.
May 16, 201115 yr Harang is the only pitcher IMO that has any complaint towards Dusty and I'd say it's 50/50 that Harang just isn't that great. I don't think it's 50/50 on Harang just not being that good. He was one of the best pitchers in the National League for a few years there. He just played on some bad Reds teams, so never got much recognition. I forget what year it was but one year he led the National League in inning's pitched, 3rd in strike outs, and I believe had the 2nd most wins. Yet didn't receive a single Cy Young vote, and its because no one every saw the guy because the Reds sucked. I am not saying it is because of Dusty for Harang's decline, it very easily been cause of his age and having always been in the top 5 for inning's pitched. However Harang definitely was a very good pitcher, lets not let his last year and half as a Red change the great job he did in Cincy.

Fly ball pitchers and GABP don't work out together.
May 16, 201115 yr ESPN has an article on the site about the Reds/Cardinals supplanting Red Sox/Yankees as the best rivalry in baseball. The atmosphere in the ballpark yesterday, but especially Saturday was awesome. Cueto has been untouchable so far. If he and Bailey keep this up, the NL Central race will be over before the break.
May 16, 201115 yr The atmosphere in the ballpark yesterday, but especially Saturday was awesome. It was awesome on Friday night as well. What's your record UKMF? I'm at 4-2 now. Anyone know the total attendance for the series?
May 16, 201115 yr La Russa does seem to believe in a certain code of conduct when it comes to pitching inside -- not that he necessarily follows that code too religiously himself. The Cardinals are second in the NL in hit batters, and while they ranked 13th last season, they're usually in the top half of the league: 13th, 8th, 8th, 3rd, 2nd, 9th, 6th, 7th, 5th and 2nd, going back to 2001. http://espn.go.com/blog/SweetSpot/post/_/id/10907/reds-cardinals-baseballs-best-rivalry

May 16, 201115 yr It was good to even my record at 1-1 after yesterday. I left after the 8th and missed all of the fireworks. Should have known better, but I'm sorta glad I missed Chapman's digression. Big sweep for our Reds !!
