I've never really tried to diet to loose weight. Had a plan since Nov to gradually build up to lift heavy then in May start trying to loose weight. Lost 7 lbs in May and haven't started any cardio. I'll share here the next couple of days when I get a chance.

Lifting can be a cardio workout if done properly.

Some type of resistance training should almost always be included in any fitness program. The more muscle you develop the higher your metabolism will be, the healthier your body will be. With proper diet and workout program you can get in very good shape with out ever doing what most would consider cardio. And IMO, nothing but cardio should never be done. Some type of resistance training is a must.

I'm on day three of P90X and my body hates me. I was hitting the gym hard until March and haven't been in since, its crazy how far i've fallen since then.

Would you recommend P90X? Will you make it 90 days?

P90X is great. I highly recommend it plus it can be done at your house. P90X is one of the more revolutionary working out routines ever created.

I did a 1.3 mile pool swim last night. This morning I did 6 Yasso 800s on the treadmill. That is an interval workout where you run hard for a half a mile, cool down, then run hard again for half a mile.

Tomorrow I am doing an open water swim for about 30 minutes and biking back from the lake. Saturday morning planning a 10 mile run.

I need to start incorporating just a little strength training but am just hard pressed for time.

Yeah, I enjoy it. It takes me back to high school football workouts.

I recommend muting Tony Horton.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to try it out.

When you say you run hard what do you mean? Like how fast are we talking? I'm just trying to figure out what I should shoot for when I try this.

Super sets baby!

I normally will pump it up to 9 mph which is a 6:39 pace I believe. I am a little hesitant to go much faster on a treadmill. Outside I may go a tad faster. 6:20-6:30 pace.

Read this article on Yasso 800s.

I know where you are coming from. I'm talking about running, walking, bike riding, spinning, agility drills etc. I consider lifting just that lifting to put on muscle or cut muscle. No doubt it's productive. I guess I should have clarified.

I knew what you are referring to, but a lot of people have this misconception you cannot get an effective aerobic burn from lifting, which is simply not the case.

CATS if you are looking to loose weight I'd check out Insanity. The workouts aren't as long as P90X and they are more cardio intense. Also it's a month shorter. Both Insanity+P90 are a bear. The new Asylum I think it is supposedly is tougher than both.
