January 27, 201214 yr What would you substitute to take that down some? Well thats the problem with fruit smoothies. For anyone watching sugar intake, believe it or not, fruit is bad. And that one has 1.5 cups of fruit. Thats a lot. I'd cut the fruit in at least half and replace it with a carbmaster yogurt. Back to the fruit and sugar thing. I was talking to a nutritionist about my diet, we were going over what I had eaten for breakfast on a Sunday. Big breakfast, the works, the 1st thing he crossed off was the OJ. Packed full of sugar he said. I was floored.

I came across this while reseaching. http://www.livestrong.com/article/398582-smoothies-are-they-healthy-or-harmful/ 12 teaspoons added sugar for a 2000 calorie per day diet No more than 40 grams per day for a 2000 calorie diet. Remember that the daily limit of 40 grams refers to refined/processed sugars only. There seems to be no limit on natural sugars, however. So, if it's fruits and sugar cane, for which, you're craving, sweet deal.

It was explained to me that even "natural sugars" are converted to complex carbohydrates by the digestive system, which if not burned, are stored. I am recalling this from a conversation that took place over a year ago, so I might not be recalling it to a T. I have lost 40 lbs and increased my strength and conditioning in that time period. So for me it is working. Good luck to everyone.

I would not try and overthink it.
January 27, 201214 yr LC I tried it out this morning. Pretty good stuff. I will continues to drink them. The big thing for me is I don't get ANY fruits or veggies in my diet normally. I am a terrible eater. This should help me out a little bit. I count calories and pretty much don't worry about anything else. I stick to the 2,000-2,200 a day. How many calories would you count for 1 serving of that?

NUTRITION FACTS: (The whole drink) CALORIES: 289 FIBER: 12.6g SUGARS: 44.4g PROTEIN: 12.5g Fat: 2.4g Saturated Fat: 0.3g Cholesterol: 4.9mg Sodium: 139.7mg Carbohydrates:60.2g I used SKIM milk instead of low fat, though. If you use 1%, 2% of Whole milk it will obviously be a little different. Hope this helps! Here is where I'm getting this recipe from... http://www.smoothieweb.com/category/healthy-smoothies/
February 2, 201214 yr Not to change to subject but I feel like the biggest difference that I have made in my life is the way I eat. I feel like that has been 75% of the battle. The other 25% is the workouts. I have recently started incorporating fruit smoothies into my diet. I got hooked after I visited a Smoothie King a couple time. Now I make them at home after workouts. Anyone else make smoothies? And if you could post your favorite recipe. Here's mine. Berry Healthy Breakfast Smoothie Ingredients: * 1/2 cup blueberries * 1/2 cup strawberries * 1/2 cup blackberries (I sub out the blackberries and put half of a banana in instead) * 1 medium carrot * 1 cup low-fat milk * 1 cup pomegranate (cranberry is an okay substitute) * 2 cups ice Easily 2 servings, but don’t feel too guilty if you finish it by yourself, it is that good. What's the calories per serving on this?

February 2, 201214 yr Been back on the crossfit band wagon for about 2 weeks...I've been sore the whole time  I damaged some nerves in my brachial plexus at the end of July. I lost most of the muscle in right tricep, lat and pec. Very odd...bench went from working out with 225 to like 185. My weight went from 185 to 200. Taking 6 months off to heal was hard. Mostly mental. I'm getting away from straight weights and will likely be a crossfitter from here on out. Obviously I'll be subbing out stuff that's super hard on my shoulders, ie hand stand pushups.. Did the WOD of 75 lb squats in sets of 50,40,30,20,10 with rope climbs of 5,4,3,2,1 this past weekend. I'm just now able to walk normally...

Most of the elite crossfit guys don't go off of the main site, due to its absolute lunacy. They tend to cycle their year to prepare for the open, regionals, and ultimately the Games. The main site will never have you cycle off of insane intensity all year. It's good for about 12 weeks, maybe a year, but eventually the over use tends to mess with guys Rotator Cuffs and Achilles. Look at the sites of the affiliates. Many of them have more sustainable approaches so that you will be able to Crossfit year round while reducing your risk of injury.

Thats well over half the carbs I want daily. Plus the sugar, whether refined or not, is high.
February 2, 201214 yr I'm down 6 pounds in 16 days just from reducing caloric intake, cutting out carbs and sugars and doing the Stairmaster for 20 minutes 3-4 times a week. Oh I also hit the heavy bag at the gym for 10 minutes during every workout, that is really helping me lose the "love handles". Feeling great, I am also taking FlaxSeed oil and fish oil pills along with B12 vitamin each day. This has increased my metablolism and given me a lot of energy. My sleep patterns are much better as well. I am now sleeping a solid 6 hours nightly with the help of Melatonin of course. This is a major increase from where I was before, waking up every 4 hours and staying awake for 30-40 minutes each time. Once I get my weight down to where I want it I am going to start lifting a little heavier weight to increase my strength.

Depending on how hard you workout carbs may not be a bad thing. I haven't noticed any weight gain or any effects other than feeling like I have more energy, probably due to the carbs/sugar.
February 2, 201214 yr Will be doing this burpee workout after a 2 mile run/sprint today. Should be fun...
