No, Olympic distances are for wimps. :D I did a half IM in Muncie, IN in July. That was my only official training event.

I did a mock Olympic Distance before work on a random Friday last May.

What's the minimum training time you think someone can go from no triathlon experience to an Olympic?

To do it in a remotely respectable time - meaning you are not sitting around piddling around - I think one could do all 3 disciplines at least twice a week and be fine. Some of it depends on the background obviously. Best part is the maximum time you would have to spend would be an hour at any discipline. At least once a week or every other week one brick session is good. From my perspective all triathlons are about getting to the run and how strong you are physically once you get to it. Once you are comfortable enough in the water not to burn all your energy, the bike is all about time in the saddle and getting used to going at a steady rate. By the time you run you are either shot or your trained well enough in the other two disciplines where you are not.

Water: You can not win or make your race in the water since you spend the least amount of time doing it, but you can lose a race or all your energy if you do not know what you are doing.

Bike: Playing burnout does nothing but hurt you in the end.

Run: Dependent upon how well equipped you are at the other two depends upon how well you run. A big chunk of people end up walking this portion or more than they thought they would because Swimming and Biking they had an improper strategy.

Thank you. That's a really helpful way to look at it. What about on a "per week" basis? Like do you think it can be done in less than the 16 weeks many recommend?

Unless you are starting from scratch with no physical conditioning then yes.

I'm starting from scratch with the bike and swim. But I ran St Jude mini in December, Mercedes mini in February, and will run Derby mini on the 28th.

Sitting in Loraine, OH for the Tough Mudder tomorrow morning. Can't wait

Went from 230lbs to 190lbs in a little over a year with the help of Oxy Elite Pro, weight training, eating halfway healthy (turkey sandwich on wheat for lunch then whatever the rest of the day) & jogging a few miles a week. I have put around 10 lbs back on during my bulking phase but Monday I start CrossFit to start cutting again. I am going to try and do Tough Mudder (Maysville) in October.

You are starting from scratch with those type of exercises. You are not starting from scratch with no physical conditioning.

Ok...wasn't sure if you meant technique or actual fitness. I'm thinking of doing this one instead of The National due to cost:

You will love it. Most addictive thing I've done as far as fitness. I started at the first of March and was hooked from the first day. Good luck to you.
