February 5, 201214 yr I have a stupid obsession. In preparation for Superbowl Sunday, I ran 62 minutes on the treadmill to hit 8 miles at the gym. Got off and did some spinning for 45 minutes. Then as only an idiot would do, I got back on the treadmill for 3 more miles. Legs are a little tight today, but feeling good.
February 8, 201214 yr I have finally committed to actually focusing on fitness....I have achieved my primary fitness goal of 2012! I start Shakeology on Monday, and will be upping my ante in the dog-walking arena, and begin my cool new Excerbeat wii fitness program thingy. (Probably should take the wrapping off sometime soon).
February 8, 201214 yr I read the thread thanks for telling me about it. I agree if I was a serious body builder I might go else where but if my son wants to go there instead of the video game room down in the Bama cave, its worth it. All the ones mentioned were not the same one we visited. I cannot believe a gym would tell me to leave for working out too hard. If we don't like it we leave. There is a new place closer to our home, but its smaller, and $15.00 a month. There's another chain that has opened on our area SNAP Fitness. Anyone know anything about this one?
February 8, 201214 yr There's another chain that has opened on our area SNAP Fitness. Anyone know anything about this one? Aren't they a little smaller? Kinda like Fitness 19? Lots of machines and things of the sort. Open 24hrs? I could be mistaken on this though. Never actually set foot inside one.

I haven't been inside either but from the flyer they sent me that's what it looks like. Open 24/7 is important for some people.
February 9, 201214 yr We all joined and its been 4 days. Its nice, people are helpful I like everything so far, but its a lot of people so we need to find the right time fit. I'm sore, and feel ok, my kid wants to lift 90lbs three times and move on. I told him lower the weight and more reps. What do y'all think? Don't forget he is a kicker and acts the part. I also like the big Fans and huge TVs. It is very clean and they have stations to wipe machines down. Planet Fitness is what I'm speaking about if no one has read before. Mama who has a leg with all kinds of metal (broken leg) in it did a great job on the threadmill/Bikes.

Your son should still to compound lifts like squats, bench, power clean, deadlift, shoulder press. Sets and reps are always up for debate. I typcially like the 5-8 reps range while doing 3 work sets.

February 9, 201214 yr PT caters to a group of new people working out, simple machines and lots of cardio equipment (a lot) for all sorts of folks. My kid 14 can max out on the sitting leg press. I like the place but hate the crowds.

I like the place but hate the crowds. Even though your son is a kicker, he really shouldn't train any different than any other football player. Especially when we are talking about someone as young as 14. While a press machine is good hypertrophy, it does not compare to the squat in terms of muscle fiber recruitment, strength/power development, speed development and overall athletic development. It is called the "king of all lifts" for a reason. I'd use the leg press as an accessory lift and have my main lower body movement be the back squat.
February 29, 201214 yr Me too. I have dropped 18 lbs in 3 mos. Mainly strength training and cardio. My 1st weight goal is about 15 lbs away. Funny thing is I now eat 5 times a day with not much concern for calories. I mainly watch fat and sugar intake. Lot of protein some carbs and veggies. I have one day a week, I can eat whatever I want. I retest Thur. to reevaluate inches, body fat, strength flexibility, and cardio rates. Well. It has finally happened. I have attained my overall weight loss goal. I have lost 40 lbs. In a little less than a year. 199 baby!
February 29, 201214 yr Well. It has finally happened. I have attained my overall weight loss goal. I have lost 40 lbs. In a little less than a year. 199 baby! Congrats!!! What's next?
February 29, 201214 yr Congrats!!! What's next? I think 190 will be the final goal. perhaps 2 more inches off the waist. Increase strength and muscle mass. The biggest hurdle I have is some arthritis in my shoulder, and very fiery tendons in my elbows. This has hampered heavy weight strength training. So I will probably be leaning towards a more lean and aerobic fitness. The overall goal is to get to retirement in great physical condition.
