Christian County's Kerry Stovall has resigned as head coach.

 

Goes out with a bang.

Was this expected or a surprise?

Expected. He almost did after last year but said he owed it to this year's seniors. He has a teenage daughter and son who play sports and he said he has seen them play three times in two years.

I hear Curtis Turley's already got his application in the mail ...

 

In all seriousness, I hate to see Kerry go, because I've always enjoyed him and his teams. But totally understand his reasons.

Seems on the outside (Florida) looking in that CC would be a very good job to have for someone. I would assume they would get a ton of applicants.

Understand completely why he made this choice. Like Jim Schue, have always respected him as a coach. Scribe keep us updated on the coaching search.

Stovall was 201-99 in 10 seasons as Christian County coach. He will remain on as athletic director at CCHS. Stovall said he would submit his resignation Monday, giving the school 30 days to post the job, then hire a new coach before the end of the school season.

In 24 years as a head coach at Dawson Springs, West Hopkins, Muhlenberg South, and Christian County, Stovall's teams were 367-314.

I believe this will make the last 3 State Championship teams under different guidence than the head coach that took them there.

Had the pleasure of sitting near Stovall at the state tournament a few years back and both he and his staff seemed to be class acts the whole time. Can't blame someone whose put in 24 years and who wants to see more of their children grow up for going out on top.

All indications are that the decision was made several months ago ... the state championship simply made his extra a little sweeter.

That's the best way to go out, on top.

Congrats to Stovall, you could tell his passion for the game and for his team in his trips to Rupp Arena. He does it on his own terms, with a championship and that is the way it should be done.
