Graphics depend on the hardware which depends entirely on the video card you put in a PC and what your Mac has. Give me a dollar amount for what you would spend on a Mac and I can build you a PC with better and faster hardware for the same price.

I've used graphic design and photo editing software on fast macs and fast PCs, and there's no comparison. The PC interface is clunky compared to Mac interface for this type stuff.

People accuse the apple fans of being too defensive, or supportive of their product but I see similar reactions here from pc users.

I've used custom built pc's. I've never used a PC that runs as effectively as my mac. And I like what someone else Already said. I've seen PC users switch to apple. I've never heard of an apple fan going back to PC.

It's a matter of personal opinion and I choose apple.

Regarding the viruses...if you buy a mac you don't have to worry about viruses. That's fact. Doesn't matter why...all that matters is for now viruses aren't a threat to macs.

I told you in my post that it's great that it's your preference. I'm not even trying to convince you to use a PC again. I am simply correcting what are broad brush or outright erroneous statements. I understand that you have had poor results with PCs, and so I understand why you made the switch. That does not equate to a PC will "never be as good as a Mac". It's all based on the hardware and the applications you need.

And trust me, you may not worry about it, and you'll probably be right to 99 times out of 100, but malware does exist for Macs. They are out there, even if they aren't prevalent. I guess where some of us are getting into the debate is that while it is true you probably will not need to worry about it, that is based on circumstance and not hardware or software superiority. If it was the recommendation of Mac users that everyone get one instead of a PC (which I know earlier you said you're not trying to convince others to switch), then that superiority would evaporate once everyone switched. That's like me saying I'll never have to worry about hurricanes when I live in Kentucky and then moving to Florida in 5 years.

I sincerely mean this, I wish you many happy years with your Mac. If it works for you, enjoy it. Just don't tell me a PC can never be as good as a Mac. Certainly for me, it is as good and miles better.

This statement is erroneous. The MAC'S OS X is built on the UNIX Kernel. This is one of oldest and most secure operating systems available. While MAC's can get a virus, it is very unlikely due to the operating system and a technique called "sandboxing". So to say that the only reason they don't get viruses is because they are not targeted is simply false. It has alot to do with their OS and the way they are built. Very different than PC's running Windows.

MACS forever............PC's Never!

As I said earlier, talking about viruses is a misnomer. What most equate to viruses is not actually that at all, but rather spyware and malware. And I assure you, Macs are quite vulnerable in that department.

If you don't believe that the market share is not the major reason Mac users don't struggle with this issue as much, you are ignoring a history that shows us that everything that is lauded as unhackable is wrong. How long does it take people to hack the iPhone when they release new iOS software? It's within a day or days. And the reason is that there is a very real desire for them to do so. If they turned their attention to wreaking havoc on a Mac, they would accomplish it.

Exactly. Keep in mind that the core of iOS and OS X is written in the same language, Objective-C. I've noticed a lot of updates in the last six months, probably in preparation.

Keep lovin those PC's. I would not buy one that worked at a yard sale for $10. Have experienced both and there is no comparison. It's a slow painful death.

Yes you would. That's just silly.

This is really where I stand too. It isn't that I have a problem with Macs, I really don't. I think they are fine computers and if you want one and love it then more power to you. My issue is with the condescending and arrogant subculture that has grown around it. I admit in my frustration in dealing with it I have gone to the other extreme in response, but in the end it isn't the hardware or software that I have a problem with it is the attitudes of the people using it.

It is extremely reminiscent of the South Park episode regarding hybrid cars and the "smug" storm.

Oh I know they are excellent for graphic design and the like. When someone mentions graphics I, being a child of the 80's, instantly think gaming and when it comes to graphical processing for gaming it is entirely dependent upon the hardware.

I also think one of the biggest problems you get with PCs is the fact that if you go into a store and buy one off the shelf, or even have some company make one for you the odds are good that will will start out with all sorts of extraneous programs and "free trials" that will end up bogging you down from the get go. If you build your own PC from the ground up then proceed to install the operating system on your own will will get much more for your money. The only downside to this is that you need to have a modicum of knowledge regarding computers to do this. Most people do not and this is one of the big selling points for Apple. I respect that, however since I will build my own, format my hard drive and do all that other stuff I really have no need for something as expensive as a Mac when I can build something that can do the same things on my own for less that will be compatible with everything.

**Smug alert**

Or several good friends who will do it for you. :D

Dang...there's a word I don't frequently work into my vocabulary.

So is it okay to be smug if you are being smug in response to someone else being smug?

Are we discussing computers or UK fans here?

Simple physics, for every reaction there is an equal but opposite reaction. :D
