February 2, 201115 yr I'm curious as to who you think Kentucky could have gotten, that was better than Joker. Do you believe a big name coach will come to Lexington and compete with basketball? I personally don't see them getting anything better than what they already had as an OC. BTW, I believe in promoting from within, and that is essentially what happened to Joker. He deserved a chance at a head coaching position, and I would just as soon have him do it at the school he knows and loves, as opposed to a rival. Also, Joe B. Hall was promoted when Rupp retired and that worked out pretty well. When Hall retired, UK decided to change direction. How'd that go again? I think they could have gotten an offensive genious who had done a fine job at Texas Tech.
February 2, 201115 yr I'll judge this after another two years or so. Lots of people were saying Rich Brooks was the wrong guy for the job too. But he was given time and in time he became successful. Sooo, we shall see.

Sooo, we shall see. I disagree in one premace. This is not a new coach coming in and establishing his identity with the players, including an entire new staff. It is a man that is continuing the program that he was already a part of. The season was suspect at best, and the preparation for the bowl game against a team that was in total chaos was terrible.
February 2, 201115 yr This thread is absurd Joker has been head coach one year went to a bowl game and is about to sign one of if not the best class in UK history, he hired several new staff members what else do you want him to do?

Lack of discipline statement don't hold up. He benched his starting QB for the bowl game. Pretty much cost them any chance they had in that game. If hiring a Uk man who wants the job more than anyone by far. Is the wrong way to go... Only time will tell, but I think Kentucky couldn't have got anyone better at the moment.

July 9, 201313 yr Author Looking back on old threads are fun to do. Especially hearing the stance people had for Joker and how very few thought UK could go out and get a top assistant or any coach that could change the culture at UK like Stoops is already doing or at least making the right steps to. I am not tooting my own horn either. I was clearly against giving Joker the job and stated my reasons many times before he was even hired and how UK messed that up by just handing him the job. UK was in a great position to get a better coach and someone who could have gave them a better chance to take the next step. However I also said that I did think he would do at least alright and that didn't happen obviously lol. I love where the mindset is of the fan base now compared to then. Back then fans even by the comments seemed content being mediocre and at best making Music City Bowls. The thinking that is the best UK can ever do. Now the fan base seems to realize that UK might not just have to settle for being a Music City Bowl team at best. The new coaches so far are doing it the right way, lets hope it shows on the field here in a few years.

The new coaches so far are doing it the right way, lets hope it shows on the field here in a few years. Yeah I am not getting my hopes up like everyone else. Stoops has yet to coach a collegiate football game. Now, he has made a big splash in recruiting and boosted the morale of the fan base which often new coaches do; but, despite their talent deficiency this upcoming season they cannot go out and play uninspired. W/L is relatively meaningless this first year (unless they win 2 or less games)... just give the fans some hope with the style and effort.
July 9, 201313 yr There will be a similar thread about Stoops next year after UK wins 4 games. I agree, unless they play with a little fire. It is one thing to win every game on the schedule against the teams they should beat, but if they are just barely getting by University of Phoenix Online or whatever gimme games they have, it will not be a good sign going forward. They have to keep the momentum.
July 10, 201313 yr Joker was one year in. I would not reconsider what I posted at that time, wrong or not. I will support Stoops with the same fervor.
