Isn't Greer from Corbin? I heard he coached at whitley for a few years after he left Bell Co. Why did he leave Bell in the first place? If the Corbin job came open would he be cosidered?

I felt the 1st story quoting high school players was very tacky and unfair to Coach Campbell. After 18 years he should have been allowed to step down on his terms in the way he wanted.

Coach Campbell showed class, unfortunately some people did not wait till he could make it official. Which it now is. He will continue his AD duties and will be working towards many goals, which as coach/AD he could not. Now he can focus on things to make the school and the facilities better not just for the football team but all the athletes.

 

As to his replacement. Look for a process in which many canidates will be looked at. I would guess that any replacement would love to be in place by January, but it may take longer to find the right person.

 

Good luck to Mike as he moves into a new phase of his life. He still will support the kids and have all his friends from the coaching profession, which may mean he may be back on the sidelines at some point in the future.

Based on what was said by the players in the article, the resignation was not on his own terms.

I was told that the players knew that this might be happening and that is why they played their tails off in the final game against North Laurel hoping that beating them and getting back to the playoffs would keep Coach Campbell around.

 

In my opinion, the comments from the kids would have been better after the announcement to gauge their reactions. I just think it would have been more appropriate then. But I don't have a huge problem with it, just think after would have been better.
