So who is going to replace him? D:)

Again, I say that if the Times-Tribune (Weekly baby contest = paper seller) jumped the gun on this, then Top Gun (Whitley fan) was well ahead of them. In fact he probably got the TT rolling on the story. So if you want to say that breaking the story was tacky, look no further than your own fans.

This was basically old news (rumor) anyway. It had been going around the entire county since summer that this would happen exactly as it has unfolded thus far.

Amen.

I believe that Thunderstruck is "close" to the program and could have a very good idea on who will be the replacement. I have heard Bryant's name mentioned in the last month or so, but wondered if Whitley would hire a coach from a 1A school such as Pineville to head a 4A program that is looking to win immediatley?

I gave this a little edit while you posted the amen Les. Can I get another one??

Amen, brother.

As far as Whitaker goes...........hopefully he has grown up.........

I hope Whitley football does not follow the same road as the basketball program over there and change coaches every three to five years.

Can I break this one now or should I wait until BB is over?

Whitley is looking to excel in football, NOW. I believe that when they hired coach Guffey a couple years back they made a statement about basketball, kinda like UK hiring Rich Brooks to lead the football program. While Darrell is a great guy, probably not high school head coach material.

Possiblities......

Tom Bryant

Paul Rains

Jim Black

Roger Gentry

Mike Whittaker

Are there any other names that may apply or be pursued

My odds on these possible coaches being at Whitley next year:

Bryant (would seem to be way down the parent's list)

Rains (needs more public time to retire)

Black (Woods won't go with him though)

Gentry (been lobbying hard since last year)

Whitaker (the timing is not right)

If I'm not mistaken, Black is coaching softball now and his daughter is a Junior on the softball team, so I'd be surprised if he left. But nothing in life is a 100% surety!

I'm sorry for reporting the news but when I said it was a done deal, it was a done deal. So now when are we allowed to talk about news, do we wait until it's in the paper, on the radio, on TV, WHEN? Do wait until the coach comes foward or when the school system comes foward with the information? The fact is Whitley needs a new coach and I'm willing to bet they do not make a fool of themselves.

My odds on these possible coaches being at Whitley next year:

Bryant 40-1(would seem to be way down the parent's list)

Rains 2-1(needs more public time to retire)

Black 10-1(Woods won't go with him though)

Gentry 2-1(been lobbying hard since last year)

Whitaker 100-1(the timing is not right)

I dont think Rains will leave until his kids get out of school...the main reason he went to private

I think Gentry lobbying for over a year will really hurt him and he doesnt throw the ball..

Black may be the front runner but you have to think that there is some very good coaches that will be interested

No need to be sorry TG, I was just pointing out that it was reported here before it was in the Times.
