Highlands does accept tuition students provided they have the room. They have been limiting the tuition students because there is no room. I believe it costs $5,000 to attend Fort Thomas schools and there are approximately 150 students paying tuition in k-12. Also, I believe whatever district the student lives in, that school district has to give the ok because they lose funding per each student. But, this is a big part of their school budget. As you may or may not know, Highlands is one of the lowest funded schools from the state because their test scores and income is higher than most of the state. But to play sports though, they still have to abide by the KHSAA rules so they have to be in school by their 9th grade to be eligible or they are considered a transfer student. There was a big article written a few months ago on how important tuition students were because it is currently paying for about 10 teacher salaries and without them, they would have to cut back.

Well how about we had the entire Kenton county public schools to that list. I'm still searching for all of the districts with non-resident pupil contracts with Ft. Thomas.

So by an HHS fan's admission and my research we've can say that a non-resident student from the following cities can attend Highlands for $2000.00, not quite the same as NCC:

Southgate, Dayton, Taylor Mill, Independence, Erlanger, Edgewood, Crestview Hills etc.

I'm sure there are many more but they are not easy to find online but a little honesty goes a long way. Just saying

I will be honest and say I don't know much about ADA contracts. I was going by an article I read about 3 months ago from memory. I do know Highlands as well as many other NKY schools including Campbell Co. to an extent, gets the short end of the stick when it comes to SEEK funding. I did find the article I read and it states highlands has 174 tuition paying students this year k-12 and it has brought revenue in of about $675,000. So the average tuition is about $3,800. So I guess yes, some students pay less than $4,500. I would think this would be about standard for any school that accepts tuition. How does it work if you live in Newport and want to go to Campbell County. Or live in Bellevue and want to go Dayton. I am not sure.

So a Kenton County student can go to any County school for free and just about anywhere public for $2,000? I like that freedom.

Highlands players do not have an off-season. They work hard year round. Serious commitment is the key.

I am surprised any school in Kenton County could even field a football team. If a Kenton County student could go to Beechwood, Highlands, Ryle, why would any athlete play football for a Kenton County school. And how did Holmes win a basketball championship?

According to previous posts there are approx. 150 tuition students K-12 ,attending Ft. Thomas . I can assume that there are no K-8th graders playing football for Highlands , and I can assume that all 9-12 tuition students aren't playing football.

 

2HC , can you tell us the number of tuition students 9 - 12 that play football for the Birds ? How many of those players see game time on a regular basis ? Please post the number of tuition students that actually play for the Birds.

I think you're asking a question that we know cannot be answered. I would be very surprised to find out that who is pay tuition to be an open record case. I know True went to Turkeyfoot Middle school through at least the 7th grade. Not sure if the family moved or just paid for him to begin to go to HHS.

Does that mean since highlands doesn't play Trinity it cant't be considered the best. Football more than anyother sport is dependent on numbers. larger schools will generally always win if the schools have rich traditions. That doesn't mean they shouldn't play larger schools. it is a great way to improve and test yourselves, but it shouldn't be the end all of a great program.

Kenton County has open enrollment. If you live in Ft. Wright Scott is the suggested school, however you can choose to attend Simon-Kenton or Dixie. Not Ryle or any other public school in Boone County. You do have the option of attending Beechwood, Highlands, Ludlow, etc. if they have openings for tuition students. To my knowledge, Holmes is for the City of Covington and I believe they will accept tuition students also, if there is room.

The True family sold their house and moved to Ft. Thomas around two or three years ago.
