Worst finals ever?

Featured Replies

The average goes as follows:

Winners: 38.6

Losers: 6.8

So that average margin of victory is 31.8.

If you take out the Boyle/Allen game it is as follows:

Winners: 42.2

Losers: 5.4

So that average margin of victory is36.8.

For argument sake how would these games have gone if we were at 3 classes....

1A Mayfield vs 2A Newport Catholic (IMO best game of the 3)

3A Central vs 4A Boyle (Could Boyle win this one by more than they actually won 4A by)

5A Highlands vs 6A Trinity (Trinity by 3 TD's in a pretty good game)

Does this need it's own thread?

These would be pretty interesting matchups.

3 classes would be ideal for football in KY, but the KHSAA has never thought about what is ideal for football in KY!

That looks like dream matchups. I would have loved to see this. I think every one of those games would be competitive. 1a game would be outstanding, 3a game would be competitive, and 5a game would be a dream matchup. A mediocre Highlands team able to compete with an excellent Trinity team. And I would love to see these same matchups with maybe a Bell, Beechwood, St X, Cov Cath thrown in there. And would love to see the Highlands/Trinity matchup the next 2 years.

If we were back to four classes under the old system, I would project the state finals as these:

A ... Mayfield vs. Newport Catholic

2A ... Central vs. Corbin or Belfry

3A ... Boyle County vs. Highlands

4A ... St. Xavier vs. Trinity

Two of the four could be potentially good games ... two of them likely would not be.

I did post 3 classes earlier but 8-9-10 teams in district would mean only 1-2 or 3 games out of district and ALOT of old rivalries would be gone. We are stuck with 6 classes at least 4 more years.

Yes 3 classes would have 9 districts games in most cases and would have teams have only one non district game. Blow outs happen sometimes in the first round and sometimes in the championship games just like option right stated. Just look at the SEC championship game.

KHSAA needs to fix this. What a joke.

Agree! I'm not sure how they fix it but the lack of competitive games, IMO, was an embarrassment to KY High School Football.

To me the finals every year is evidence how crappy football as a whole in Kentucky really is. Its still about ten schools/communities in the state that run football programs like they should be ran. The rest just hope they can get a chance to play em for a loss. Kentucky is way behind. If you went to a 3 or 4 class system there would be just as many blowouts if not more just maybe less likely in the finals. High school football is not about one weekend in bowling green its about every school every week.

Kentucky football does not produce a 4 and 5 star recruits but to say the schools who win do it because all the others don't work as hard or do it right is no where near true. Do you think the players and coaches at at the 6 championship schools won becaused they worked harder and there schools and communities ran the programs like they should and the runner-ups didn't. Steve Spurrier said after coaching at Washington that he learned that the players and coaches who didn't win worked as hard and sometimes harder that the teams that did. I agree with that completely.

Overall, yes.
Absolutely.

WOW. Only 6 coaching staffs, 6 teams, 6 communities know whats going on. No wonder we are so far behind in football. So I guess the schools that won last year but not this year just all of a sudden became football retarded. Do you think if Highlands and Trinitys coaches switched with the 2 teams they beat who would have won?

Overall, yes.

If you think Central outworked anyone you didn't see them play.

If you go MaxPreps, they have all of the state championships listed, well at least those that have played. Kentucky is not the only state w/ this problem.
