Newcath dominates the 2A final by beating Owensboro Catholic 42-0.

 

Mayfield dominates the 1A final by beating Hazard 47-6.

 

Not that it matters since this is purely speculation and opinion but who would win this match up if these two were still in the same class?

It sure would be a fun game to watch.

Didn't NC lose to Beechwood? Comparing scores is not always accurate, but I would think NC would struggle with Mayfield.

That was over a month ago, and those two always play one another close, regardless of how good or bad one or the other is.

 

My question is...if they played today for the 1A or 2A state title. Who would've won?

Tough game to call but I like Mayfield...

This hypothetical game would probably be a closer game than any of the other 6 this weekend.

Overall, I believe that this would be a tough pick too. Mayfield definitely has speed and good size. NCC is bigger in size, but is much faster than many others outside of NKY are aware. After seeing how dominant NC and Mayfield were in their games, it would have been very interesting to see both play one another. Don't know which way I would pick. I do know one thing, I wouldn't let the game between NC and Beechwood determine a decision, NC is a completely different team since then and it has been proven throughout the whole postseason.

It also predicted that Newcath would beat O-Cath 35-28...we just witnessed how that turned out.

 

Newcath's defense would be the difference, IMO. Logan Martin and Jake Geisler would give that Mayfield o-line fits all night. Scary to think what this Newcath team would've been like with Evan Morse on both lines as well. He went down in the Beechwood game with a season ending knee injury.

We will just say that Beechwood and NCC were all in the same class and hypothetically speaking Beechwood's and NCC game that was just a few weeks ago was a playoff game and since Beechwood beat them , Mayfield and NCC would have never played. You know why? Because hypothetically Beechwood is better than NCC since they Actually played on the field not Hypothetically and since Beechwood and Mayfield actually played each other and Mayfield won I guess Mayfield is actually and Hypothetically better than both this season. Of course I'm hypothetically speaking.

These two would've met twice if they were in the same class. Last game of the regular season and again in the region finals. That's how it always was when these two were in 1A.

 

And for the record....last time NCC and Mayfield met, Newcath beat them like a drum to the tune of 42-7. This year's Newcath team is every bit as good as that 05 team. Not saying that would be the outcome, but I'd give NCC the edge over ANY team in 2A or 1A this year.

 

The thing that makes NCC so tough is their ball control offense. Mayfield would have limited opportunities to show off that high powered offense. Look at what they just did to Owensboro Cath who came in averaging 44 ppg. Not only do they have multiple weapons offensively, their defense is VERY GOOD as well.

 

I can guarantee that Mayfield hasn't seen a rushing attack like Kelly, Hightchew, Hayes, and Cain.
