I think "this" Mayfield team COULD stop the run and not sure what NCC could do passing against a strong Mayfield secondary. I have to think that Guhy at QB throwing the ball would be the difference to a strong WR corp for Mayfield.

 

I have to say that #74 & #78 are very intimidating...thought #74 was very good.

I think NCC would have an extremely difficult time stopping Mayfield. Granted, I think NCC would move the ball on MF. I just don't think they would score enough. Team speed for MF would give NCC problems. MF would win by minimum 14. JMHO seeing both play.

Mayfield owns a 2-1 record against NCC . You got a thing about Mayfield. Listen buddy you were talking hypothetically and hypothethetically Beechwood knocked NCC out of the playoffs. Funny Beechwood stopped that great NCC rushing attack at least enough to hypothethically knock them out of the playoffs and your hypotheical mind. lol

These two would've met twice if they were in the same class. Last game of the regular season and again in the region finals. That's how it always was when these two were in 1A.

 

And for the record....last time NCC and Mayfield met, Newcath beat them like a drum to the tune of 42-7. This year's Newcath team is every bit as good as that 05 team. Not saying that would be the outcome, but I'd give NCC the edge over ANY team in 2A or 1A this year.

 

The thing that makes NCC so tough is their ball control offense. Mayfield would have limited opportunities to show off that high powered offense. Look at what they just did to Owensboro Cath who came in averaging 44 ppg. Not only do they have multiple weapons offensively, their defense is VERY GOOD as well.

 

I can guarantee that Mayfield hasn't seen a rushing attack like Kelly, Hightchew, Hayes, and Cain.

 

Yes, NCC beat Mayfield 42-7 last time they played, really dont know what that has to do with anything, since I doubt any of the guys on this years team played as 6th or 7th graders. If thats the case, Mayfield holds a combined 7-1 record vs NCC and Beechwood, so, hypothetically, the odds would be in Mayfields favor. I hate to tell ya, but, this years NCC team isn't even close to that team anyway. They are way too one dimensional this year and have nowhere near the QB. I do think this years defense for NCC is comparable. NCC really has no size advantage over Mayfield in the trenches if you'll look at the average sizes on both lines. NCC has nowhere near the speed of the Cardinals, can't pass as well and as good as the Breds D is, I think Mayfield's is equal or better. Teams that may give Mayfield trouble are ones that can pass and run, not simply run behind a couple of big boys with slower RBs than the Cards defense..

I think that it's funny that people are arguing that NCC is one-dimensional. They are much faster than many know and not hypothetically, I will say that NCC didn't play anywhere near their full potential against Beechwood. Everyone talked about how tough the OC passing game was and that got nowhere, which I believe is indicative of their "weak pass defense".
