These predictions all sound pretty good to me. The only thing I'm wondering is will the 4A game go to the wire again as the past two have in what on paper appeared to be blowouts. I believe that the final between Belfry and Central will be very similar, but believe that the winner could go either way on this one.

No doubt, makes you wonder about everyone's argument that a strong schedule is important for a great season and making it deep in the playoffs. This isn't the BCS, and this type of thing proves it to an extent.

I think a strong schedule helps expose weaknesses in your team by pushing them out of their comfort zone. A strong opponent can often take away what you do best and make you find other ways to win a game. Your team will get better by experiencing these challenges and learning from them. However, a strong schedule is not absolutely necessary, as Mayfield is proving. If your team is talented and well coached, maybe you are good enough to do what you are comfortable with regardless of the opponent. Mayfield is very good and very talented.

 

The other thing I will say about schedules is a strong or weak schedule doesn't by itself prove anything. You have to look at what a team does with the schedule it plays. If you play a strong schedule and aren't competitive, then you just aren't that good a team. But if you lose close games and keep improving, you will get better (see Central). Conversely, if you play a weak schedule and easily handle all your opponents, then you are clearly a good team. You just don't know how good until you get challenged by a strong opponent. IMO it is always better to play a tough schedule and find out what you need to get better at to win the title.

Maybe in class A but I think it makes a difference when you get into the upper classes. I know John Hardin's schedule was questioned by some so you have to wonder if it worked the other way on them.

PT would have been a Top 2 or 3 in 1a, Graves Co, a Top 3 or 4, Caldwell a Top 5 or 6. In most years, Trigg, Marshall and Calloway would be Top 5-6 teams, as well, just not this year. Crittenden is always solid and Ballard is better this year than normal, so, as much as Mayfields schedule gets knocked, it wasn't near as bad as people think.

Following Massey through the season, while usually quite accurate has "undervalued" Mayfield's performances several times this year. Cardinals have, a majority of the time, won by more than predicted in the Massey ratings. With that being the case, one might argue that the Birds are good for another touchdown against the Hazmats.
