Massey's picks for the state finals:

A ... Mayfield 41, Hazard 28

2A ... Newport Catholic 35, Owensboro Catholic 28

3A ... Belfry 28, Central 27

4A ... Boyle County 40, Allen County 20

5A ... Highlands 34, Christian County 22

6A ... Trinity 35 Male 7

About what I'd expect. One thing that sticks out though is Mayfields strength of schedule is so low. Did they not play any one up in class at all?

Looks good except for the 3A game, I'd switch the winner.

I noticed Mayfield was rated 10th in the state. Not bad for a 1A school with under 400 students.

Mayfield opened the season with Marshall County, a 6A school, and played another one later in the season in Graves County.

Paducah Tilghman made it to the semifinals in 3A. Caldwell County won a playoff game in 2A, as did Graves in 6A. Calloway County is a 4A school, but had a really down year.

Part of the problem is that some schools on the Cardinals' schedule (Marshall, Calloway and Trigg County) were down this year or had down seasons by their standards.

Stands out like a sore thumb, doesn't it? About midway of all KY schools. I guess it's a result of the distance they have to go if local teams are down.

Mayfield is also a Class A school, too, unlike the others at the top of the overall rankings.

For what it's worth, both Massey and MaxPreps rate Mayfield's schedule as tougher than Hazard's.

Understood, it just stands out to be ranked top 10 with the 110th strongest schedule.

It doesn't help when Fulton Co and Fulton City, 2 of the weakest and smallest teams in the state are in your district, then throw in Caverna in the 1st round of the playoffs and that doesn't help either. In normal years, Calloway, Caldwell, Trigg, Tilghman, Graves Co, Marshall Co would be a very challenging non district schedule, especially for a 1a school, but, like others have pointed out, a few of those teams had down years from there normal standards, most notably, Calloway, Trigg and Marshall...

Mayfield - Massey #10, MaxPreps #13, Lit House #15

Agreed, I'm certainly not doubting their ranking in the top 10, especially after the butt whooping they put on Beechwood last week.

How do you find this information on there?
