It is not his running that makes him so special. His play on defense is what does it.

And guess what ... this may be the case again next year. Beechwood is going to be very good next year with virtually all starters returning and very good replacements in line for those few starters that don't return. And Mayfield will be in somewhat of a rebuilding year next year, although they still have some very good talent so I don't know who would beat Mayfield before Beechwood next year. They lose almost their entire line a couple of skills players and most importantly... Luke Guhy. All the Mayfield people want to talk about Jackson but Guhy is the man. He runs that offense to perfection. He is a leader on the field. He made perhaps one bad throw all night that went right through a Beechwood defenders hands. Mayfield will have a very difficult time replacing him IMO. Purely from a passing side of things, he is as good as anyone I have seen all year. He doesn't run the ball at all but man he can throw it and he can read a defense.

Jackson is just a decent runner, its his defense. #19 for us is also just a sophomore, Labront Scott. So is our other linebacker #6 . Guhy's brother is just a freshman, he will be the QB next year , he will be good. He just needs a little seasoning. Beechwood will probably start out as the #1 team next year but I dont think it will be a given that you will beat Mayfield next year or even 2012. We have plenty of players comming up. The little league this year was shock full of talent. Mikey Brights son was a 6th grader and he is going to be a beast. I like our future, I know we aren't going to win every one but we should get our share.

 

As for last year, If I could take 1 player off that team it would be Murrell, not Shelton. Murrell gave us speed and quickness from the backfield. Overall this team is better in my opinion because they are more diverse and the defense is better and Guhy makes better decisions with the ball.

That is exactly what it was, you can spin it anyway you like to try and make you feel better but we controled the game from the begining. Bw countered for a while but the Cards stamped the game in the 3rd quarter and all in the stadium left knowing it.

 

Get out and what more football, look in the mirror, football does not revolve around your little center of the universe in NKY.

Hmmm ... maybe we should give quickslick credit for his season-long proclamation that Mayfield had the best team in the history of Class A football. After all, how many Class A teams have beaten the Beechies by three touchdowns on their own turf?

 

Well he did tell us and to his credit he attended ever Mayfield game but 1 this season according to his own claim which is 2 better than I did. I have to give him alot of credit for taking the time and making the effort to drive down to WKY each week and endure 10 running clocks. I did the NKY drive just this once and cant imagine doing it again anytime soon

Just in, had to hit Florence Hooters before that insane drive, opted not to stay the night and now that I'm home I am glad I didn't stay.

 

Mayfield is use to travel and I think that made travel a non issue and for those who slammed our schedule I don't know what to tell you. Niether of these teams had played a truly great team, other than BW -NCC, since about the 4th or 5th week of the season. Mayfield seemed to have a few to many weapons for BW and our line play was solid and eventually in the second half was completely dominant. Speed too may have slightly favored the Cards. I have for some time felt like many on here (mostly non Beechwood fans) overlook Mayfield or have just watched BW own 1A to the point that Bw is in your head. Mayfield, has never had to deal with any of those type intimidations issues with the Tigers. I have to ask those who were there, and have wondered myself, had Bw taken that opening drive in for a score would this have been a different game. Yes and know in my opinion, I thought Mayfield was better but that would have atleast slowed the eventual contol of the game in Mayfield's favor. I was astounded by BW's ability in the first half to convert 3rd downs, many 3rd and longs. Did Bw wear down in the second half, espically upfront, or did they give up. Mayfield was well on their way after returning the kickoff for a TD but the drive that I thought put a stamp on the game was when Mayfield lined up and ran heavy doses of Jonathan Jackson straight at Bw running clock and breaking BW's will. Vocke, is a great back but I thought we did a great job on him all night and BW just did not look like they were all that comfortable having to go at it through the air. Did BW get out of their comfort zone when Vocke was ineffective?

 

BW needs more seating but man what a field. If any of you Tigers come down to BG, look us up, I really enjoyed meeting SportsGuy who, like the BW program is nothing but class. I hate that drive it is just wrong to have these in the same bracket but atleast its Bw's turn to drive next year. Okay, enogh of my sorted ramblings and off to bed with a smile I am going.

 

A couple of the things you mentioned could be true. Vocke has not really been made a non-factor all season, so neutralizing and stopping him could have been a huge difference in the way Beechwood played offensively.

Come on..I guess Mayfield is the 2nd best team in the state? They would win 1a-5a? I am sure they have a nice team but come on..

 

Mayfield would have a legit shot at 1-4, they could be competitive in 5 and 6 with all maybe with the exception of 1 or 2 teams

I truely hope they meet again next year......I 'm suprised that nobody has commented on the youth of the Beechies (zero seniors on D & three on O). Mayfield is a very good team, but they will lose alot. Beechwood will do nothing but get better the next few years.

 

We will return enough next year to again challenge for it all but if I were anyone else in 1A I would watch with concern after next year. We have what looks to be the makings of a team that should challenge for rights as one of our best ever. So Jason, you may get your wish in 2 and 3 years

TP ... the 3rd quarter was probably Mayfield's worst quarter of the game. I don't know what happened at half time but you guys looked totally off track starting with your first possession of the half. In fact, I would say Beechwood outplayed Mayfield in the 3rd quarter. That kickoff return near the4 end of the quarter after Beechwood scored to close it to 24-14 was the play of the game. A great run by your guy after muffing the catch. It looked like he was going to be brought down inside the 15. Beechwood was in perfect position with four tacklers filling their lane properly and looked to have him trapped along the sideline. Your return guy made a cut to squeeze up the sideline and a blocker got enough on the contain man to keep him from pushing the return guy out of bounds. One more nice cut and off he went. Think about the game if he is tackled inside the 15 with the score 24-14. Check out the yardage totals and I bet Beechwood outgained Mayfield 2-1 in the third quarter.

If you have access to the stats, please tell me how many tackles Jackson had and how many Staten had for Beechwood. I really don't know but it seemed like Beechwood's linebacker Staten was everywhere. In fact, look up the number of tackles Oronia made for Mayfield too. It seemed like I heard his name more than Jackson. I don't think anyone is missing the point on Jackson if you are saying he is one of the better linebackers in 1A. He undoubtedly is. But the way you guys are hyping him, I expected more. Athletically, Shelton was undoubtedly more impressive. Jackson is impressive and everyone from Beechwood will tell you that. But I have seen several linebackers over the past few years that impressed me as much if not more.

Voice, I dont know if this was Jackson's best game. It seemed to me very standard. I will tell you he is very good. Very Very solid. He will have to get taller in the next few years to move on to big time college football. He has a nose for the ball and he is a good student and a leader. As a runner he is a step slow but runs with decent power. He has had a tendency to fumble just a little bit. He is a sophomore and to me I wouldn't trade him for any sophomore in KY.
