I enjoyed meeting Sportsguy, nice fellow.

 

Beechwoods QB had a cannon for an arm but they had a few drooped balls or he was inaccurate. Beechwood was hardnosed and well coached.

 

Mayfield had too many atheletes for Beechwood to cover and the Cards line was a little better. Mayfield really never got a ground game going until the 4th quarter when they ground tons of time off the clock.

 

Beechwood was really never outa the game until the kickoff return which was a backbreaker.

 

Mayfield and Beechwood should not play until the finals, it is a much too long drive for the fans. Mayfield and Frankfort made more sense, Beechwood and Hazard or LCA would have been ok.

 

Next year, you Beechwood fans get the favor of the 5 hour drive. See ya next Thanksgiving.

I tend to agree, They would be able to beat NCC, CCH, Dixie, not sure about Highlands. The only other team I think they may have trouble with is possibly Ryle.

 

Come on..I guess Mayfield is the 2nd best team in the state? They would win 1a-5a? I am sure they have a nice team but come on..

Congrats to Mayfield on the W. Guess I was way off on my prediction that Beechwood would keep it close. Saw the highlights on tv and Mayfield indeed has a very fast squad, but they weren't very big at all from the looks of it on the highlights.

 

Mayfield WOULDN"T beat NCC. Granted I wasn't at the game, but their line looked small. (Not trying to take anything away from the Cards W so nobody slam me for the comment. Just and observation)

 

In the end, Mayfield was obviously the better team and it was proved in the score. The bright spot for Beechwood is that they were fairly young this year so they should bounce back next year. Good luck to Mayfield next week and all of the Beechwood seniors in the future.

Yea, Walter, like you said " it was easy for MHS to be udefeated causE they had not played anybody" Well, they Still have not played anybody! MHS could have tacked on another score if they had not been a class program and taken a knee several plays at the end of the game! As far as Beechwood's ability to convert long third down plays, IMO, that ability would have been greatlly decreased if Higgens had been playing on defense as he is the best defender on the MHS team, wiht him in the game the "beechies" probably dont score. You say they WOULDN"T beat NCC because of the size of NCC's line after MHS completely dominates a team that just beat NCC a coulple of weeks ago, and also MHS DESTROYED LHC which had a line that probably matches up size wise with NCC! Go freakin figure! laugh my butt off!

Lionscoach, it might not have been a total buttkicking unlike last year but a few kicks were delievered to the butt area.

" Beechwood allways plays Mayfield when they dont have their best team, the field at MHS has to big of a hump in the middle, a momentum swing here or there, blah, blah, blah! How about if Beechwood was better than MHS they would win the game?

qs must be a frustrated coach on the current squad that wasnt good enough to be on Yeagle's staff. Every time Yeagle's name comes up, qs falls apart. He's a silly man with not much confidence.

How would this Mayfield team stack up against some of the NKy powers, NCC, Cov Cath, Dixie, Highlands, etc.?

 

IMO ... Mayfield can play with all those teams except Highlands, just like Beechwood. Yes, they could beat NCC, CCH and Dixie. But they would be the underdog against all.

Congrats Cards on the big win. Why is it when Beechwood has a great team Mayfield gets beat the week before? But when The Tigers aren't as good as they have been they play them? That is why they are undefeated against them. This streak should have been over a long time ago.

 

And guess what ... this may be the case again next year. Beechwood is going to be very good next year with virtually all starters returning and very good replacements in line for those few starters that don't return. And Mayfield will be in somewhat of a rebuilding year next year, although they still have some very good talent so I don't know who would beat Mayfield before Beechwood next year. They lose almost their entire line a couple of skills players and most importantly... Luke Guhy. All the Mayfield people want to talk about Jackson but Guhy is the man. He runs that offense to perfection. He is a leader on the field. He made perhaps one bad throw all night that went right through a Beechwood defenders hands. Mayfield will have a very difficult time replacing him IMO. Purely from a passing side of things, he is as good as anyone I have seen all year. He doesn't run the ball at all but man he can throw it and he can read a defense.

I truely hope they meet again next year......I 'm suprised that nobody has commented on the youth of the Beechies (zero seniors on D & three on O). Mayfield is a very good team, but they will lose alot. Beechwood will do nothing but get better the next few years.

Just in, had to hit Florence Hooters before that insane drive, opted not to stay the night and now that I'm home I am glad I didn't stay.

 

Mayfield is use to travel and I think that made travel a non issue and for those who slammed our schedule I don't know what to tell you. Niether of these teams had played a truly great team, other than BW -NCC, since about the 4th or 5th week of the season. Mayfield seemed to have a few to many weapons for BW and our line play was solid and eventually in the second half was completely dominant. Speed too may have slightly favored the Cards. I have for some time felt like many on here (mostly non Beechwood fans) overlook Mayfield or have just watched BW own 1A to the point that Bw is in your head. Mayfield, has never had to deal with any of those type intimidations issues with the Tigers. I have to ask those who were there, and have wondered myself, had Bw taken that opening drive in for a score would this have been a different game. Yes and know in my opinion, I thought Mayfield was better but that would have atleast slowed the eventual contol of the game in Mayfield's favor. I was astounded by BW's ability in the first half to convert 3rd downs, many 3rd and longs. Did Bw wear down in the second half, espically upfront, or did they give up. Mayfield was well on their way after returning the kickoff for a TD but the drive that I thought put a stamp on the game was when Mayfield lined up and ran heavy doses of Jonathan Jackson straight at Bw running clock and breaking BW's will. Vocke, is a great back but I thought we did a great job on him all night and BW just did not look like they were all that comfortable having to go at it through the air. Did BW get out of their comfort zone when Vocke was ineffective?

 

BW needs more seating but man what a field. If any of you Tigers come down to BG, look us up, I really enjoyed meeting SportsGuy who, like the BW program is nothing but class. I hate that drive it is just wrong to have these in the same bracket but atleast its Bw's turn to drive next year. Okay, enogh of my sorted ramblings and off to bed with a smile I am going.

 

TP ... pretty much on target. Personally, I think Beechwood went away from the run a little too much. Nussbaum got very few if any carries and he may be Beechwood's fastest back and is their hardest runner. Staten playing hurt and not being able to go on offense may have had something to do with fewer runs also. But that is just quibbling and anyone can do that after every game. I said it was going to be a game of big plays and whoever made the most would win, and that is what it was. Beechwood was just a little off on some big play opportunities and Mayfield made their big plays. Hence Mayfield gets the win. Personally, I think Mayfield was better last year. I don't see a RB on this team even close to Murrell. And Shelton was a man among boys. The other key players on this team were pretty much all there last year, right? This is a very good Mayfield team and they likely will win state so I don't want to take anything away from this team. Good luck to Mayfield next week. Not many teams played three games against teams that are in the state finals. I would like to see all the teams Beechwood played get titles next week (Highlands, New Cath and Mayfield).

Personally, if I had to choose between your sophomore Jackson and our sophomore Max Nussbaum, I would take Nussbaum. That is no slight to Jackson because Nussbaum is a great player. So is Jackson. He isn't a Shelton, but not many are.
