David Justice. Played baseball at TMC just so he could get out of off season conditioning for basketball. Named Catholic High School All-American in basketball. Was 2 years younger than his peers playing at Latin School. World Series Champion and played in post season with 4 different teams.

I'd have to go with Arrez Henderson of Holmes, but then again I am young...Arrez had the biggest calf muscles I have ever seen, he was a freak athlete and had a pretty good overall game...But there's one I'm not remembering well but he played for Lloyd maybe a 4 years ago, Kimmey or Kinney or something or another...Anyways the kid from Lloyd was sick, he did some of the craziest pre game dunks I have ever see, not a very good basketball player but his athletic ability allowed him to do work at the High School level...

 

The kid you are talking about is Charles Kinney, he could play just had a very poor head coach...I'm going to have to go with Jelani brandon from Lloyd 1992, drafted in the 6th round by Kansa City then got hurt in double AA that ended his career, Had Football scholarship offers from UC and Notre dame to play reciever and allthough he didnt play basketball could jump out of the gym and do any dunk you wanted....there are a few more guys that I need to mention, Ricardo Bailey and Gary Fann...

Not to steal thunder from this thread, but has there been an NBA basketball player from N. Ky. since Dave Cowens? That is 40 years ago! As I was trying to think of great athletes that thought crossed my mind. I know Jack Jennings played overseas. Brian O'Conner played in Europe and in the CBA. But I don't think N. Ky. has one NBA player since Cowens. Am I missing someone?

 

Not sure, was Bob Arnzen pre or post Cowens?

Dicky Beal was a fourth round pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1984 NBA draft, but the knee problems that he had at UK showed up in the pre-season and kept him from a pro career.

Those names are taking me back to '85, and those grade school leagues at Lloyd.

Oh contraire, I went to school with him at TMC starting in 1982 as a freshman. I was born in June of 1964. Here's his bio.

 

David was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Robert and Nettie Justice. His father left the family when Justice was two years old. Justice graduated from Covington Latin School in Covington, Kentucky at age 16 in 1982. He skipped the seventh and eighth grades. He then attended Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Kentucky majoring in Criminal Justice.

There's a difference between "great players" and "great athletes." I'd venture that the Luther kid from Newport was a better athlete than any of the 3 you mention yet was nowhere near the b-ball player.

 

He was not that much better than Cowens. Cowens could play center at 6'9 c he hstled but he could flat out jmp

NKY cheerleader. Went to UK and was the face of UK during basketball games in the early 1980s. The cameras loved her. And I sure remember her as a result.

 

She also has a fairly famous husband now

Just thought of a Conner grad, Jason Johnson. He may not be the best but should be mentioned. Played MLB and was a good basketball player at Conner. As I am typing this I just remembered the athlete that I think could be the best but not sure of his basketball numbers and that is Jelani Brandon of Lloyd. Only thing you can say about him is...what an athlete! Baseball, Football, Basketball, and Track.
