I know many of you may not remember them, but the Long brothers from Lloyd in the 60's were awfully good "all around" athletes, excelling in several sports. I believe Geoff played baseball professionally?

I believe Geoff was in the Cardinals organization.

Steve Fields from Newport has to be in the conversation somewhere. Maybe Jeff "the Toe" Bathiany from HHS...nearly made the olympic team as a decathalete.

Erica Hallman...Celeste Hill.........Kansas and ODU....

I've watched a lot of female b-ball players over the years and the one that I think could hand best with the boys is Erica Hallman.

Joe Harney , Holy Cross. Scored over 2000 points in his varsity career, was outstanding 2 guard on H.C. team that won 9th region title in 1994. Also had a good college career playing Div. 1 at WKU. Athletically he was one of meanest dunkers in the State his junior and senior seasons.

He was primarily a football player, but Bob White was the best athlete in the history of Northern Kentucky. It was well before most of you started watching sports ,but Bob became a first team All-American as the Ohio State fullback. He led them to the Rose Bowl. He played so well against Iowa in a big game, that Mel Allen called him Bronco Nagurski reincarnate. He was also a fine basketball player and he was the key to defeating a very good CovCath team at their place in the District Tournamnet, despite the presence of Roger Tieman and John Zalla. That year they had a decathlon meet at the end of track season. White absoltely smoked the competition as he could pole vault, run and throw.

Did you ever see Mel Thomas play? She was from Cincy & went to UCONN. I think she went to Mt. Notre Dame in Cincy. Probably graduated in '03.

I saw her on TV at UConn. Yeah, she can play.

According to Wiki he played for OSU in the late '50's. One thing is certain, Pat Veep is the man for all of us youngsters, he knows his NKY hoops.

Anthony Luther from Newport last year has to be in the discussion. He was only about 6'3" and couldn't have weighed in at more than 160 pounds. That kid could sky though. He seemed to pick rebounds off of the top of the backboard and he dunked with ease.

As Bob Trumpy would say, "give me a break".
