Lexington Catholic does NOT have a Middle School. They conduct tryouts with their 15 feeder parochial schools and choose the best. 4 of the schools are in Lexington and the other 11 are scattered throughout Central Kentucky.

 

I guess this is why the KBA doesnt allow them to play in the Middle School State Tournament, they are not a middle school team, rather an all star team of central kentucky parochial schools.

It was Palmer..They played against St. Catherine the other night. I am pretty sure they won rather easily. I left early..

 

Kenny Poetter would be the player for Holmes. Covington is out due to doctors orders at this point and time. Holmes beat St. Thomas last night 55-27. James "Beatle" Bolden and Poetter both played well. Bolden is very smooth! They will play Saturday...games begin at 9:00, not sure when Holmes plays.

Kenny is the tallest kid (6-6'1) on the team and he is long and can jump...they have a lot of kids with athletic ability as they always do. As far as depth goes...I would say they are probably pretty solid 1-10. Jason could be related to Rodney and Michael, however, he is not their brother. Holmes plays the winner of Highlands and Campbell County Saturday at 12:00. If they win and continue to win they will play at 2, 3, and 4:00. They are all about man-to-man pressure and creating turnovers from baseline to baseline.

For those wanting to know, here is the remaining schedule for the HMS tourney.

 

9:00 AM Our Lady of Victory and St. Joseph Cold Spring in a winner bracket semi

 

10:00 AM Highlands Middle School and Campbell County in a winner bracket semi

 

11:00 AM Loser of Game 1 against Highlands 7th grade team (St. Therese had to bail out)

 

12:00 PM Loser of Game 2 against Holmes

 

And then games continue to be played until everyone is eliminated.

Stanley's injury is a torn meniscus, still not sure if it is season ending though. Without him they still will not lose more than 5 games. They need to watch out for Holmes and Highlands. Not sure about anyone else.

The Lane Harrett kid that came from Turkeyfoot is a very solid player. With Hoge and Harrett in the back court look out..

As far as the system they run, Coach Booher said in an interview that I did with him Friday, ALL levels of Holmes' basketball (elementary, middle, frosh, JV, and varsity) will run and press and force turnovers. He wants to create consistency at an early age. By having all levels running the same plays and system, if he has to bring kids up to a higher level, they already know what's going on.

In all my years of association with the middle school teams in Covington, that is the style of basketball they have always played 95% of the time. This will feed right into his system...hopefully Coach Booher will instill discipline into his system as well.

This is not good news for a 14 year old boy. Sorry to hear this. He is a solid player. I hope he can have an injury free hs career. Disagree with about losing no more than 5 games though. Stanley carries this team on his back. The rest of the team is solid, but no stand outs. Have seen them play many times.

Any updates on who won the tourney? Who were some of the better players and from what team? It alway nice to read about our youth.........

Does the Harriet kid from HHS play AAU? If so, for who?
