Simon Kenton to stay in NKY 6A district

Featured Replies

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association today revised its football realignment plan, placing Simon Kenton back in a Northern Kentucky Class 6A district with Boone County, Campbell County, Dixie Heights and Ryle.

The grouping — District 6 — will be the state’s only five-team district in Class 6A.

The fifth-place team in the district still will make the playoffs. It will be the No. 4 seed in District 2, which became the 6A’s only three-team district after Paul Laurence Dunbar was moved to District 7. District 2 consists of Central Hardin, Meade County and Nelson County.

Hats off to the SK folks for the "outside the box" thinking. Their ".05 miles close" argument was a bit, shall we say, weak. Glad to see it work out. SK needs to be in the NKY district.

Nice move by KHSAA. That makes for a very nice, competitive district.

On the flipside, a three-team "district"? Odd.

Very creative and equitable solution to this issue. IMO the new regime in the KHSAA is doing a very good job.

I'm glad, I'm also glad Dixie is back in this district as well.

That definitely makes sense. Quite frankly, it's a solution I wish they would have taken in the existing situations, in lieu of byes for the #1 seed in the opposite district. The one thing I hope they do is can the ridiculous home and home idea for the three team district. There is no reason Nelson County, Meade County, and Central Hardin should have to play each other twice.

I agree ... the new regime seems very open to "out of the box" thinking on some issues. The decision to allow Emma Talley and Justin Thomas to play in the state golf tournament even though they missed their regional tournaments to play in the Junior Ryder Cup is a fine example of a common-sense approach to regulating high school sports.

Now, let's see what they do with the Louisville 6A alignment ...

I think Tackett has done a very good job. I agree he's been very innovative and not a slave to just doing things the way they did things in the past. He's not afraid to do things differently if he thinks different is best for the kids. And he's not afraid to admit when he/the KHSAA has messed up. I'm sure some folks aren't happy with some of the decisions made today in re alignment; it's impossible to please everyone in these matters and frankly if you try, you mess up even more.

Glad SK will stay in the N. Ky district. Kudo's to Marksberry for coming up with the idea and kudos to Tackett for having the willingness to do something different and support the idea.

This should make for a very exciting year in nky 6A football.

Love the addition of Dixie with Ryle, SK, Boone, and Campbell.

Agreed. And with the 5th place team in District 6 moving in with them, it's not like they need to clearly define the "worst" of the three teams. I'm guessing scheduling could be tough, but it shouldn't be any tougher than it's been for the two three-team districts the last couple of seasons.

Kudos to coach Marksberry and Mrs Setters for doing what was right to benefit our players and school.

Tackett has done some good things, but obviously he cannot read a map and look at distances. If he had moved Ryle down to the 6A district with Oldham and just move a team from Louisville the three team district then you could have all four team districts. Not to make you Ryle fans mad but your travel would be no further than some of the 6A teams in West KY.

So your saying move 2 teams to keep from moving 1??????
