October 12, 201016 yr I'm with this guy. And as much as I believe that we need another right-handed bat to slot into the 4 hole, I'm not sure if we can get by without the spark and passion that Gomes plays and leads with. Give me an Adam Dunn or a Jason Bay though (somebody who's definitely an upgrade production wise), and I'd be all for it. You just described Jayson Werth...
October 12, 201016 yr Your probably not going to get him for that. So you think he's going to go from 7.5 a year to more than 15 per?
October 12, 201016 yr We definitely need a bat w/ HR & RBI pop, because I don't see Rolen being able to exceed what he did this year. I like the rotation of Arroyo, Cueto, Wood, Volquez, & Bailey. I don't see the need to rush Chapman into the starting rotation either, so I would be content to exercise the option on Arroyo & keep the starting rotation as it was during the latter part of the season. As others have said, aside from Volquez's sorry performance, the starting pitching was more than good enough to win in the postseason. I'm not of the opinion that Volquez can be a top of the rotation guy, but certainly good enough to be in the five-man mix. So for me, a good power-hitter is what we need. I like Werth, but as others have said, he'll probably be asking for more than we can give.
October 12, 201016 yr So you think he's going to go from 7.5 a year to more than 15 per? Your the one who threw out the 15-17 Mil number.
October 12, 201016 yr Your the one who threw out the 15-17 Mil number. Pretty sure that was Clyde....
October 12, 201016 yr Pretty sure that was Clyde.... My bad for some reason I was thinking it was you.
October 12, 201016 yr You just described Jayson Werth... But not Pat Burrell. 2 years ago Lance Berkman was an All-Star, he's the same age as Burrell. Would you want him? Players get old, their production drops--especially big guys like Burrell and Berkman who both weigh over 230 lbs. Burrell is a bad gamble for the Reds given his price tag, if they are going to go after an old, expensive, defensively mediocre outfielder they'd be better off going after Johnny Damon. He'd fit in their lineup better and his weak arm wouldn't hurt them in GABP.
October 12, 201016 yr So you think he's going to go from 7.5 a year to more than 15 per? I'd say he'll get around that as well. It may not exactly be 15 but it'll be more around 12-13 a year. He'll end up with the Yankees or Angels I'd say, basically which ever one doesn't sign Carl Crawford.

I think they are going to focus on Cliff Lee and the bullpen. I think Werth will be the runner-up prize between the Rangers, Tigers, Angels and Red Sox.
October 12, 201016 yr Johnny Damon would be a much better option than Pat Burrell. Top of the order hitter who could really help the young outfielders, similar to Edmonds this year. If you get Damon, you probably let Nix walk or offer him a minor league deal again.
