Will the loss provide extra motivation for the Pioneers next time around?

 

I am going to lean that yes this is a good thing for Simon and they will be that much hungrier next time around.

Playoff game will be at Ryle. If Ryle is healthy, SK won't win. So I guess my answer is no. Also, you ask if they would be hungrier? Hard to believe they weren't last night. If they weren't then shame on them.

Still a long ways to go as far as a rematch is concerned. Between now and then SK will likley have to travel back to Lexington to face a Henry Clay team with the same scneario.

The loss was not good for SK. Both teams played with great intensity last night. If the rest of the regular season unfolds as expected and higher seeds prevail in round one of the playoffs, SK would need to win a rematch at HC in round 2 now. Round 3 would be SK at Ryle or Ryle at HC. No way could I ever say a loss was good. It's better to learn from a close win than a close loss IMO. A rematch for any team is less favorable on the road than at home IMO.

I think not...Ryle saw last night that they can be just as effective with Hempel doing his thing which won't allow SK to key on Elliott a second time around.

 

IMO, although a close game, Ryle is still the better team.

Based on what I have read about the game, I think Ryle gained more out of this game than Simon Kenton. Hempel seemed to find himself on offense and the Ryle passing game showed some life. Those are huge for Ryle. I don't think Simon Kenton gained anything and they lost an edge they would have on Ryle if they had won. Namely, that "Ryle can't beat us". I think everyone at Simon Kenton expected to win last night. Ryle busted that "you can't beat us" headset up last night by getting the win. I think that loss hurt Simon Kenton all the way across the board.

No sign of underestimation when you see how hard they played. Both teams knew this was about 98% certain of winner takes district championship and homefield advantage.

Ultimately, these are two very good and fairly evenly matched football teams. There was not a ton of difference between them last night - pretty obvious by the final score and total yards gained. I don't agree that it was a "good thing" for SK, as the home field playoff advantage was a tough thing to lose. Will it provide them extra motivation next time around? Maybe, but not sure it'll really translate into anything meaningful on the field. Both teams were absolutely fired up, energetic, and motivated last night and it would be hard to increase those levels any. I think the biggest thing -besides the win giving Ryle the edge in the district - is that both teams realize they are pretty evenly matched and it'll take every bit the same effort and intensity as last night to get the win next time around.

And, the 1 game winning streak by SK over Ryle comes to an end. These teams could easily hook up again in the playoffs. Time will tell. Good job by the JV Raiders as they complete the 3-level sweep of SK this morning.
