First, there were a lot of "Incidents" in that game that led to the "fake punt" call.

 

Second, they played the next year so I imagine Dale would have used it then, not 8 years down the road or so.

Shutting out Boyle at HHS was a Victory within it's self at the time....

Eight years ago these boys were still riding bikes and playnig with GI Joe.

The lack of respect for other 4A teams is sad. Sad that so many classy Highlands fans are overshadowed by the hyperbolic rantings of the few who just want to spew garbage. I'll say this: Highlands, welcome to a competitive class of football. I'ts the the first one you've seen in a few years.:sssh:

I look forward to a match up with Boyle in the near future. Had a nice young man that played for Boyle living next to us this past summer. He was a senior in '05 so he remembers traveling to Highlands in '04 . He couldn't believe he was living in the shadows of Highlands stadium being that we live across the street from it. Almost unAmerican feeling to him.:idunno: We had alot of fun going back and forth with him. I think we almost had him brain washed after the millionth time we made him watch the games from the '04 season.

Nothing here. I played on the 2004 team and not one word was said about the fake punt. It was not running up the score.

That doesn't surprise me. I remember talking to Dale right after the 03 lstate game oss and asking him if he was upset with the fake punt. He was actually a little taken aback with the question and gave me the "huh, why would you ask such a silly question" look. He wasn't upset one bit with Boyle calling the fake punt; he was disappointed first in the loss and then in the fact that we didn't defend the fake punt.

 

I do think Dale was very disappointed with the two losses to Boyle in 03. I remember watching you all practice the following summer and remember thinking I had never seen Dale or the players so focused and working so hard. I believe the losses to Boyle in 03 elevated Highlands game. Dale clearly wanted another shot or shots at Boyle in 04, but it had every thing to do with the two losses in 03 and nothing to do with the fake punt.

 

I think having Highlands in 4A again is going to elevate a whole lot of 4A programs. While I was rather disappointed in Boyle's attempt to move to 5A and avoid Highlands, now that it's likely that Boyle will be staying in 4A, I have a strong feeling that Highlands will be mentioned often by Coach French this winter in the weight room and throughout the summer conditioning sessions. I'm sure it will be the same at LexCath too. My guess is that Matney has been mentioning Highlands for the last couple of years to his kids. And Dale knows there will be a huge ole bullseye on Highlands back, which will cause him to ramp it up even more, if that's humanly possible. Should be some great games in 4A for the years to come. I'm really looking forward to it. But first, we have this little thing called "this year" to concentrate on. It would be neat if we could win 5A in all of the years we played in that class. It won't be easy, but I think we have a real good shot of pulling it off.

Unfortunately, this has become a common theme not only in this realignment but in yrs past as well including 6A teams. Could they still duck the Birds before the final re-allignment or is it pretty much a done deal.

Most of all I'm a huge believer that 6 classes for 200+ schools is absurd, and 0-10 teams making the playoffs is ever sillier; but that's for another thread. Best of luck to Boyle (since I omitted them in my original comments) and the rest of this class next year; but to the BCHS fans calling loudly for Highlands--Be careful what you ask for!!

While many on here are trying to turn this into a "No love for Boyle County" thread, or bulletin board material for BC; I had no intention of anything like that when I started this topic. Again, not a Highlands fan, but rather a competitor in all sports but football; but simply looked at the realignments and thought how few contenders actually exist in most classes, especially this one (Same could be said for 1-A, 6-A).

 

In the old 3A realignment with Highlands in it, from 2001-2006 these few-contenders won 5 of the 6 State Titles. Boyle 2001,2002,2003 Lexington Catholic 2005 and Cov Cath 2006. 2007 was the start of the 6 class system.

 

I will be the first to say Highlands will be the favorite every year, the new 4A looks to be the most competitive class of them all.
