Has parity left KY HS football?

It seems, to me, that in this six class format, the cream at the top of each class rarely has a problem with the underlings in the class. Has this lead to a lack of parody in regards to post season success? We go through these 10 game schedules, and IMO, rarely do we see the upsets that we used to. Am I off base? Are there surprise teams out there that can step up and beat someone they supposedly shouldn't?/

I know one thing week after week when you look at the scores it is amzing how many blowouts I see. I am not sure what the issue is but it seems like there is a lot talent disparity out there.

I think the shrinking of the districts and the new district scheduling grid have caused schools some scheduling issues because you now have more teams competing with each other to fill empty scheduling slots. That means you may have to fill your schedule with 2-3 teams you either a.) wouldnt normally play or b.) is 2-3 classes above or below your class.

I think the KHSAA needs to open the district scheduling window to between weeks three and nine to help with this problem. I can think of several long-time, same class natural rivalries that were discontinued with the move to six classes and the resulting scheduling problems.

Let's just say it seems to be pretty easy to peg the favorites in each class...

Funny thing is, when the state went to six classes many of the proponets of the new system used parity as one of the reasons they liked it. Of course anyone with any sense knew better, but their arguement was schools will compete with more schools closer to their enrollment and parity will be a result. And you just couldn't tell them otherwise. :thumb: That's worked out well.

I could say a lot more on the subject of classes and enrollment numbers, but we'll keep it on subject here.

Wasn't it easy to do so with 4 classes? You might have had one or two more favorites in one or two of the four classes, but it's not like when we had 4 classes you had 10 really great teams in each class. And you might have knocked some teams considered favorites this year into the "nice team but no real chance of winning state" category. Heck, look at 5A this year. You have JH, BG and perhaps Christian Co as being legit threats to Highlands in 5A. If we had 4 classes, wouldn't at least one of them be in 4A with no real possibility of beating X or T in 4A, yet eliminating that team or teams as being a threat against Highlands in 5A? If we had 4 classes this year and NCC was still in 1A, would any one consider Beechwood to be a favorite? I probably wouldn't.

Perhaps I'm wrong. If some one has the time, the info and the inclination, it would be interesting to a take the enrollments used when they set up 6 classes and evenly divide them into what would have been 4 classes and see just how many teams would have been real contenders for each of the classes and what teams that are contenders in 6 classes would have been eliminated from being a contender in 4 classes.

Useless conversation. We all know the problem. 6 classes is someone's baby, and it isn't going to change.

True about it being a useless conversation and it isn't going to change at least for the next 4 years. It's more than just one person's baby though. I believe it was a unanimous vote by the BOC to stick with 6 classes.

I do not see parity in the 6 class system as being a problem, what you do have is some smaller or less successful programs making it farther in the play offs, so there are some late season drubbings if you will but alot more folks are having disrtict and early success than ever before. This will encourage more parity down the road. Yes you still have the elite programs mopping the floor but they would have done that anyway.

Hallelujah!. Thank you Skilld-Kid. I was beginning to think I was the only person on here that thought the way you do about 6 classes.

I think parody will soon come, if Highlands goes to 4A and Boyle doesn't chicken out and move up then 4A will have all kinds of parody with Bell, Highlands, Boyle, Knox Central and a few others, that would make 5A wide open. 6A will usually always be 2 team dominant, but if class 4A gets straightened out I think parody will return to highschool football in good ole KY.

If it's parody we want, then we need to call Mel Brooks.

Finally, I've been waiting for that.

"Parity" is a funny word.

As to the bolded, thanks for the thought. Hate to break it to you but Boyle's held their own when they've played the Birds in the past and has nothing but respect for HHS. Of course you also show your knowledge of the situation when you lump Bell County in there since they are moving to 3A by enrollment. Really up on things. :thumb:

Bell will be in 3a.
