September 22, 201016 yr I know this has been discussed numerous times, but today an event brings this issue back up to mind for me. A co-worker and his partner celebrate their 32nd anniversary together today. They both have great jobs, are very well off, have a stunning home, regularly host charity events in their home, participate in community activism and belong to a nearby Presbyterian church. Oh...and I almost forgot their vacation home in Florida. The one thing missing in their lives has been the ability to raise a child/children. They've tried various times over the course of the last 3 decades, but been turned down each time, even though willing to adopt an older child, or a child with "issues" Given the high rate of divorce, the number of children living in poverty, and the number of children waiting for adoption, I simply find the objection to gay adoptions to be completely absurd.

September 23, 201016 yr All children who are up for adoption need good parents who can provide a good home environment for them. I don't see why a gay couple couldn't do this.

September 23, 201016 yr Based on the epidemic of horrible hetero-sexual parents we have in this country and throughout the world, I can't imagine why sexual orientation should be a hindrance for adoption. If the couple can provide a loving home for a child in need, then I consider that a blessing for the child. In the end, it's the opportunity for the child to have a happy, content life that matters, nothing else.

Who has turned them down? My wife is a social worker with the state. She is in the foster care and adoption division. She has had foster parents that were gay sucessfully adopt.

September 23, 201016 yr Ohio, Kentucky and Florida Florida overturned its ban Yesterday, I think. This thread does make me happy though.
September 23, 201016 yr I know 3 gay couples who have adopted. I didn't realize there was an issue with it in most places anymore.
