Adoption By Gay Couples

Featured Replies

Do you have any stats to back up the zero chance statement? Maybe they should have adopted a girl instead of a boy and this wouldn't have been a problem. The white couple adopting a black child or the other way around is comparing apples to oranges. I think a child should be placed in a loving home no matter what the parents sexual preference is. I also think anyone who thinks a child who ends up in a gay home won't be affected by the lifestyle of the parents is not thinking clearly.

Wouldn't one example of gay parents NOT dressing their child in attire traditional to the opposite sex prove Clyde correct?

I think you have it backwards. One couple dressing the child that way, which has been stated happened, thus negating Clyde's zero percent chance.

Define "affected". All kids are affected by all of their parents decisions/orientations/preferences.

Define it anyway you want. Their gay lifestyle will affect the child whether it is in a good or bad way. It could be either. Some people think that being in a gay relationship with children in the home won't be any different than a traditional home. I don't believe that.

In all this discussion of the "affect" of gay parents on children, how in the world is it that straight parents have gay kids?

Technically, one would not since I said zero chance "very many".... I digress.

According to Christine O'Donnell it would be due to an "identity disorder."

I think the effect that posters are talking about is the effect on the child's social life, not the child's sexual orientation. Kids can be cruel, and chances are that a child raised by two homosexual adults will be harassed throughout his or her childhood. It's not fair, but that's life. It is a very real concern, but something that I think can be overcome.

I feel for the couple who want to have a child....BUT, isn't the requirement of a couple to be married? I don't know, but I do know they can never be married. This is from my reading of the Bible. Man changes God doesn't. And I also agree they could be very good parents. I'm stuck on the fence and it hurts.

What difference does it make if they're married or not? I have an aunt who is in her 50's. She is single, and has never been married. She has adopted two beautiful little girls from China & is currently raising them & supporting them by herself. They're cute little girls & both are very intelligent. There's no doubt in my mind that my cousins are much, much better off because of the adoption.

Sometimes you don't need "stats" to know the obvious. Zero chance very many gay gentlemen dress their boy in girl's underwear. To believe otherwise is to believe that gay guys also talk with a lisp, swish when they walk, and always have a limp wrist.

I seriously laughed out loud when I read the above. Well done, and good point.

You do not have to married to adopt. With gay couples only one or the other can officially adopt the child.

I don't know how I feel about adoption by gay couples. It presents so many issues, many of which the child, not the parents, will have to deal with. I trust that many gay couples would make great parents. Many would be much better parents than heterosexual couples; however, the issues that the child will face are a major concern to me and, in my opinion, are so speculative and uncertain that I struggle to take a stance on the issue.

Is there some type of interviewing process that couples must go through on a case-by-case basis? I would imagine so. Maybe that's the best route to take. I think homosexuals and heterosexuals alike should have the ability to adopt, if doing so for the "right" reasons.

The same way a straight lifestyle will affect their child. The type of people and parents they are will affect the child, that's a guarantee. Anything else is simply an assumption.

Consider the alternative for a lot of these kids.

I would be in favor of gay parents adopting. I've seen kids who have been placed in foster homes with adults who only participate to get a check and care nothing about the kid(s) they are entrusted with. While I consider a homosexual lifestyle a perversion, there are many heterosexuals who also live in perversion so I don't think orientation should be a criteria high on the list.
