I had no problem with Jeter's "fake" hit to reach 1st. Same mentality as Pete Rose...........just get on base. Looking forward to seeing the Yankees play in GABP in June.

There is a difference between intentionally knocking the ball out of one's glove and acting as if you've been hit by a pitch. I'm not sure I can articulate the reasons, but there is a big difference.

Jeter would have been more of a man to admit that he didnt get hit, then smack a double into the corner.

Agreed. Let me preface this by saying I really don't have a problem with either one. Like I said earlier, there is a reason there are umpire's.

 

For starters, if you don't want to have someone get on base by a HBP when it didn't hit them, don't throw a pitch 3 feet off the plate. It's not like he was leaning. There is this opportunity once in a while. However, ARod has that opportunity nearly every time he grounds out. Plus, there's physical contact with another player, which could result in an unnecessary injury.

Like others have stated it's just like a center flopping or a shooting guard acting like there was contact on a fade away 3. It's the officials job to get the call right.

 

On a side note I am looking forward to someone drilling him or pitching way inside on him a few times now.
