Who saw Jeter fake getting hit by a pitch last night. He admitted afterwards that he faked it? He said "its my job to get on first base."

 

Are we BGPers OK with the "anything to be safe or get on base" mentality?

It happens all the time in every sport - do an acting job to get a call. And ultimately, it's the official's job to get the call right.

 

Suppose it had been someone other than Jeter. A-Rod? Manny Ramirez? Milton Bradley? Would there be more "outrage"?

I had no problem with it. Jeter took it a little too far with the antics, but there is nothing wrong with getting on base like he did. Had it been A-Rod, this thread would have been started 18 seconds after it happened and the thread would be 4 pages long.

I don't really care. This is something that could have been reviewed with a replay system, though. And if I'm not mistaken Jeter ultimately scored on a base hit. So it was a big deal. But to me it's no different than flopping in basketball or soccer - it's just up to the official to make the right call.

I'll keep this in mind when one of your Wildcat's flop on a charge call or try to sell a catch in the end zone. Cheating is breaking the rules. This, in no way shape or form, is cheating.

I have no problem with this. It is up to the umpire(s) to get calls right and Jeter is right, his job is to get on first.

THere would be a lot more outrage.

This is absolutely cool with me. Like he said, his job is to get on first and he did what he could to get there. Same thing as leaning in and letting the ball hit you and take first. What's worse? Breaking a rule and leaning into the strike zone or acting like a ball hit you?
