Being a baseball fan, I see nothing wrong with what Jeter did last night...you gotta do whatever you can to reach base, especially in such an important series as this was. Is it any different for a pitch to go inside on someone, them act like they get hit, pinchthemselves really hard where they might've gotten hit, and point to the red spot saying thats where the ball hit them? No there is nothing wrong with it...the umpire is gotta be the one that decides whether or not you got hit or if you are faking it.

 

I personally don't think there would've been as much of an outcry against what was done if someone on a last place team did that. If someone on the Pittsburgh Pirates had done what Jeter did, they would probably be calling that guy a genius in selling the HBP. Sports fans need to stop having a double standard and I think this is just another case of "let's crucify the bad guy for lying".

 

This has nothing to do with NYY vs Pittsburgh. The reason this is a story and the only reason this is a story is Jeter v ARod.

I didnt say that it was wrong of him, but as the captain and all universe baseball player, I was saying it would have been sweet.

I guess I'm wondering what the difference is in this act vs A-Rod against the Sox a fews year ago.

 

I think the difference is what A-Rod did was obvious to everyone, while many people in the stands would have just assumed Jeter was hit by the pitch. Until seeing the replay I figured he had been hit (I was watching live). So while it is now apparent that Jeter was fibbing to get on base, he did it on a more concealed play. A-Rod on the other hand was on a base line in front of an entire stadium.

If Jeter KNEW he was going to get on base he would have said "thanks but no thanks." Since he didn't that told me he was "trying to prevent an out."

Jeter's reaction was a little over the top, but I think he thought it was going to hit him & that's why he did what he did. At the same time he realized it didn't hit him, he was awarded first base. He should've just shook it off & jogged to first, but taking the base isn't busch league. I don't blame Jeter for taking first base. There's no way he should've turned it down.

 

When you hit a routine ground ball & you're frustrated when you're running it out & take a swipe at the fielder's glove to jar the ball loose...well, that is busch league.

Not so fast my friend. Faking a tag is never part of baseball, much less is it "good baseball."

 

I was referring to an infielder selling a call on a tag that he didn't make. That is good baseball my friend, but I understand why you may have taken my statement it the way you did.

Is it any more bush league than a catcher framing a pitch to appear it went over the strike zone to get a call from an umpire, which happens about 50 times a game?
