It seems that there will be some significant changes to the football alignment for next season. When is the KHSAA going to finalize the new alignments for 2011? The reason I ask is that I'm thinking it takes the coaches a bit of time to fill out their schedules, and until the KHSAA announces its final 2011 alignment scheduling can't really be done, can it?

I was told that the alignment will become official at the KHSAA's Board of Control meeting in mid-October.

(Actually, I don't know about that last part. Maybe the schools will find their district opponents to be closer, geographically...maybe...)

I hate the idea of 32 teams in the largest and smallest classes. The 6 class system is watered down as it is, now the 1a and 6a will be extremely watered down. Seems to me it would work alot better with 32 in the largest and the other 192 teams split into 4 classes with 48 teams in each class...

I completely agree with only having one super class, and having 48 in each of the other classes. However, and its just my opinion and no disrespect meant towards any of the teams mentioned, but if 48 teams were in class A then you would have the Caverna, Fulton County and Fulton City's of the world playing against the likes of Mayfield, Danville, Nnewcath, etc. And I don't care what type of system was implemented, who was coaching, facilities, support, etc., but those small schools will never compete with those powers. Never have, never will. At the sametime, I don't believe in all of us trying to be equal either. I guess Im just saying I see both sides to the coin?

Russelville's district will be Mayfield, Fulton County, and Fulton City. None of them are close for them.

Fulton City and Fulton County will be in a district with Mayfield, even under the new system ... and both schools have beaten Mayfield in the past. Fulton City did just three or four years ago.

I heard some preliminary realignment proposals for Western Kentucky. Most likely to take place in 2012. A lot of it is centered around the new McCracken County school which hopefully should be in place by then.

I have to believe that whatever district Heath, Reidland, and Lone Oak are put in will have at least five and maybe even six teams in them to start with to make up for the fact that at least one and perhaps two teams will be removed from them very soon.

 

In my district proposal last week I made sure all three McCracken County schools were placed in districts that had at least five teams in them.

 

-Calloway County, Hopkins County Central, Lone Oak, Madisonville-North Hopkins, Owensboro

-Fort Campbell, Heath, Paducah Tilghman, Trigg County, Webster County

-Ballard Memorial, Caldwell County, Crittenden County, Murray, Reidland, Union County

 

That was done so that when those three schools exit, no one will be left with a three team district, something that has happened twice in the last realignment.

I thought I read that Dixie and another NKy school was near the bottom of 6A in enrollment and they could elect to stay in 5A. Please correct me if wrong.
