Like westsider said, I have heard that the new district and class realignment will be out October 16th.

Have never heard of anyone being able to play down, up yes but down?

 

TOG, Dixie is 5A now. What I meant was that the KHSAA realignment scenario I saw had Dixie moving up to 6A. Dixie was second from the bottom in that 6A enrollment list I saw. I just thought I had read where Dixie, and another NKY school I cannot remember, may be able to stay at 5A.

 

By the way Holmes went down from 5A to 4A. I'm sure you knew that.

There is no reason that the KHSAA hasn't released the weekends when district games will be played. That would allow everyone to develop the remainder of their schedule.

Yes I did know that, but the difference (and it is a huge one) is that Holmes enrollment numbers put them in 4A and they requested the move down from 5A to 4A.

 

The only way Dixie stays out of 6A is to have two school with larger enrollments come out of the woods somehow or two 5A school request to move up and play 6A, but I don't think that is going to happen.

I would think they haven't released the weekends yet for two reasons: 1) Not knowing how many teams are in your district could cause you to schedule on a date you think is free when it really isn't, and 2) Maybe they haven't decided on whether keeping the last week open from district games is a good idea.

 

Speaking on #2, I've never understood why this was done, other than perhaps one team in a 5-team district might have a hard time finding an opponent the week before the playoffs start.

I think Graves County MIGHT request to move to 6A to be linked with Marshall County and Apollo MIGHT request a move to be linked with Daviess County, but I would be very surprised.

But Highlands' new competition in 4A might not include powers Boyle County, Johnson Central and Lexington Catholic. Those schools have asked the KHSAA to be allowed to move up to 5A because of geographic reasons.

 

So far, four other schools have requested to play up a class: Cooper (4A to 5A), ...Harrison County (4A to 5A)...

 

By the list, it appears that all of those teams have no geographical basis for moving out of 4A:

-Boyle County has Marion County, Mercer County, and Taylor County practically next door.

-Lexington Catholic could almost fall in that same boat, adding Harrison County to their numbers as local.

-Harrison County is next door to Pendleton County, along with all the northern Kentucky schools.

-Johnson Central is going to be with Ashland, Boyd, Greenup, and Rowan - the same teams they wanted to be moved down to 4A with in the last alignment.

-Cooper is going to be with Covington Catholic, Holmes, and Highlands.

 

Now I'm not necessarily against these teams wanting to be away from Highlands. But don't give a lame "geography" reason for wanting to move up.

In theory, the largest 32 teams are broken into 8 4-team districts.

In NKY, the teams that would be 6A are Ryle, Boone County, Simon Kenton, Campbell County, and Dixie. Cooper and Conner's enrollments would take them out of 6A.

If they stick to exactly 32, then one would assume that one of these 5 teams would be placed in another district.

Since Ryle is the furthest south down 71/75, would it be possible to see them moved to a Lexington or Louisville district?

Coop I think the team to move out is SK and my reason is simple! Other than in Football, SK plays in a different Region, so why not just move them. Ryle plays in the ninth in Baseball and Basketball so why should they have to move!

I believe that likely will be the case. The northern Kentucky 6A situation isn't ideal, but I would think precedent would say move Simon Kenton away from the other four and closer to Oldham County, and then also Jefferson County.

That's what we were talking about this evening as a likely possibility. It does make sense. Which, of course, means that it probably won't be even be considered. I know our AD is pretty curious to see what's going to happen.
