Lexington Catholic is the only team that requested to move up that has a true case. gchs_uk9's potential alignment has them with Collins, North Oldham, Shelby County, Spencer County, and Waggener. While those opponents are not half a world away, they would indeed fit better with Anderson County, East Jessamine, Franklin County, West Jessamine, and Woodford County. I can see that request being allowed, and if so, they become instant favorites on that side of the state, and in many years to win state.

 

Boyle County's case is much less strong, and to the outside world, it looks like an attempt to get away from Highlands. You can't sell me that their travel will be improved significantly by a move up. They might fit just as well, but not better.

 

Most of the others are pathetically transparent in their attempt to find a better competitive situation. Worst of all of these is Johnson Central and Greenwood. Johnson Central requests a move from a district that, while not snugly close, is not that bad. None of the schools in gchs_uk9's alignment are more than just over an hour away. In 5A, there's not one school that is within that timeframe. Greenwood requests a move from a district that has two teams in their own city, another one a half hour away, and another one that is about 45 minutes away. Apparently they'd like you to believe that the likes of Nelson County, Meade County, Central Hardin, or even Muhlenberg County, Daviess County, Henderson County, and Marshall County are closer to them than Bowling Green and Warren Central. Honestly, it's completely pathetic that either one of those schools would even attempt this, and leatherneck, I absolutely believe it sends the wrong message. I think it tells the fans and supporters exactly where the coach and school believe their program stands. At best, it tells those people that they would rather take the path of least resistance, at worst it says "We are afraid."

I agree with your comment about Lexington Catholic. Their request still seems like avoidance, but they potentially could be moved.

 

As for Boyle County, I can't imagine any situation where they get moved out of 4A. For one thing, as I mentioned to a friend last night, it will be hard for Boyle to claim travel hardship when two main roads in the county are Harrodsburg Road and Lebanon Road, both of which lead directly to other 4A schools!

Here's a question: since when does Boyle County try to dodge an opponent? If I recall correctly, the Rebels did just fine when they were moved into the same class as Highlands, winning three straight Class AAA titles and going 2-2 against the 'Birds (actually, 3-1 if you count the forfeited game as a HHS loss).

I assume that's a rhetorical question because the only person that can be sure if the request is due to something other than geography is Coach French. In other words, no one on here can answer that question with any level of certainty (unless Coach French is on here of course). No reason for people to speculate. It is what it is as far as I'm concerned and I'll give Boyle the benefit of any doubt.

Oh, don't get me wrong - I think LexCath is merely trying to avoid Highlands as well. If Highlands weren't in the class, I think LexCath stays put.

 

The point on Boyle County is that they would fit no better. It might not be worse like some of the other clownish requests, but it would be no better. It's not like Danville is sitting in 5A.

Exactly. You have these 4A teams less than an hour or so from Danville: LexCath, Taylor Co, Rockcastle Co, Marion Co., Mercer Co., Spencer Co. and Harrison Co.

 

In 5A they would have: West Jess, East Jess, Madison So. and Lincoln Co. (clearly 5A would be a much easier district)

Also, on LexCath, you could see them move them to Boyle County's district, ship Russell County back to the Allen County/Franklin-Simpson/Warren East district, and move Breckinridge County in with the Louisville schools. That would improve LexCath's situation, though still not as good as 5A would be.

Whats funny to me is why does Highlands not play up in 6a now! You can say the same about them ! Maybe they dont want to play Trinity , St x ,could that be the case. Funny how Highlands fans look down for a school not wanting to play in there district. Why would a small school with 45 kids play a school with 90 . I think it should go bye how many kids are on the team, that would be fair .

It goes by population, as it should. Suggesting that Highlands should play in 6A -- if they even could -- just doesn't make sense. Highlands played up two classes to make their road tougher. And that's a lot different than schools trying to get out of the class they should be in, just to make their road easier.

Yea I guess when you have 50 kids a year move in your district just to play football it must be hard to get enough kids to field a team.
