Classes 1A-3A, who has the best chance of repeating as state champs?

Featured Replies

1A: Lexington Christian (1-1). Currently ranked #5 in BGP poll.

2A: Fort Campbell (0-3). Currently ranked #8 in BGP poll.

3A: Paducah Tilghman (1-2). Currently ranked #3 in BGP poll.

Looking at all three:

1A - Lexington Christian - I think the Eagles could repeat, but they don't seem quite as strong as in years past. Their district has two promising teams in Raceland and Fairview that will be tough to get past, and even a state semifinal game would be on the road, likely at Hazard. Top that off with Mayfield (one of their best teams in recent years) or Beechwood (always a contender) in the final and it seems like too much.

2A - Fort Campbell - I keep thinking things will turn around for the Falcons once they start playing in Kentucky. They shouldn't have any district trouble and a playoff game with Murray would be on base. The state semifinal would send them to either Danville or Monroe County (most likely), both tough places who may have caught up to Fort Campbell. And past that, Newport Central Catholic.

3A - Paducah Tilghman - They didn't seem good last year and one it all, and it seems like they are a little better this year. 3A is atrocious, which will help. But they'll likely have to win at Louisville Central to make it back to Bowling Green. That will be tough.

I'd say Tilghman has the best chance, but I honestly think we very well could see three new champions this season.

Tilghman. More because the other two have a tougher road than how good Tilghman is.

Good insight. LCA will have some trouble. They have a legitimate shot at the district title, but on the road at Hazard will be tough no matter who ends up there. I honestly think Hazard will be in the Championship game this year from the east.

But, to pick one, I would pick Fort Campbell, I see them having the best opportunity.

Fort Campbell is still really solid. I think LCA will have the toughest time.

LCA will play Hazard at Hazard for a chance to go to the carpet for the 3rd time in 4 years. The semi-final game will be an all out war.

Tilghman. Tilghman looks like they should be better than last year by the time all is said and done, and the primary competition is coming from Mason County - which has looked curiously beatable early on - and an extremely young Central team. Central wins, hands-down, if you compare athletes to athletes, but an unbelievably young roster means anything can - and probably will - happen during the Yellowjackets' season.

I think all three (LCA, FC, and PT) will struggle mightily to repeat, but I think PT has the best chance.

I'd say PT as well. They'll have alot easier road than the other 2, but, I still think Ft Campbell is as good as any other 2a team out there, so, it wouldn't surprise me to see them back in BGreen and win it all.

We really can't wait to start playing 2A district / playoff football. We have a young but very talented group of kids that are learning some lessons the hard way so far. They still may have a lesson to learn with 5A Warren Central on the horizon, we will see. The attitude of the team is that they physically survived Pearl-Cohn last week with zero injuries and they played respectable against a team with a half-dozen D1 prospects on the roster. Every 2A game, has the Falcons licking their chops. Last loss to a 2A team was Trigg County in November 2006. Almost 4 years without a 2A loss; we can't wait to get started playing 2A competition.

PT has the best chance followed by FC and finally LC. I am leaning toward none of them repeating

IMO, LCA will have the roughest time. But It's impossibe for anyone to know. Unless they travel from one end of the state to the other watching all these teams play. Who knows? So many factors involved. #1 LUCK, #2 HEALTH, #3 TALENT. #4 Types of teams you play against. If you are good at stopping the run vs passing. You hope you play those type teams all the way through the playoffs. If you have all those and are in the top 7 or 8. You have about a 30% chance of winning it all.

Why are you leaning toward LCA not repeating??? lol!!!

Tilghman has the best shot. LCA has to contend with Mayfield and FC might be down a bit this year. Tilghman put the hurt on the Falcons last week. No disrespect to PTHS, but the weakness of 3A will help them.

You see Mason County coming out of the east? Even though Somerset smashed a Danville team at Danville--the same Admiral team that beat Mason County at Mason County? Belfry, Sheldon Clark and Pike Central will also be very tough in Mason's region.
