September 5, 201016 yr I want to be positive but I just can't be completely happy with how UK played. U of L was the aggressor in this game, they just don't have much talent right now outside of their RBs IMO. U of L does play very hard though, and I think it looks like Strong has done a very good job this summer. They will be back, but they're far from it right now. UK started out extremely well and then went totally conservative. You'd have thought they were the underdog in this game and just wanted to hang on. UK went about a quarter without Randall Cobb touching the ball. I thought UK's defense was awful to be honest. Sure U of L didn't have great numbers, but then again they don't have the talent to run up and down the field on most BCS level teams. Froman had alot of time to throw today I thought. The secondary was awful. The run defense got worse as the game went on. And the kicking game really scares me. It wasn't all negative though for me. Hartline looked good, I still think they need to stretch the field more. Matthews and King looked really good today, throw it up to those big guys. Roark played well. Cobb and Locke were obviously excellent today. I thought the young TE Aumiller didn't look bad. The OL was not as bad as I had feared, but I think they have to improve some more as well if UK is going to make some noise in the SEC. I thought Evans and Trevathan played well. I'm not bashing the team overall, I just thought they could have played better and not have had the game get so close. I don't understand the disappointment some are having with this game. UK was only favored by 3, and if they don't shoot themselves with the penalties this is a 20 point differential in the final score. Get the win, move on and work on some things the next couple of weeks. I think the OL is going to be a good one and thought they did pretty well...UK just got real conservative in the second half.
September 5, 201016 yr Always sweet to beat UL, especially this game with all of the hype about a new coach, new stadium, CATS can't win 4 in a row etc. Wasn't it great seeing Coach Cal roaming the sidelines and tossing a football around? With the ROCKS win last night, just a perfect weekend!!!!!
September 5, 201016 yr I'm happy with the win. The main players in the offense looked good. Defense was okay but penalties killed them at times. The one hand catch by Cobb and then his run was the plays I liked on the day.

It just doesn't seem like there is a receiver at UK that can get open deep, all the receivers seem to catch the ball well but have trouble getting separation on the deep routes.

Get the win, move on and work on some things the next couple of weeks. I think the OL is going to be a good one and thought they did pretty well...UK just got real conservative in the second half. I thought the defense was soft. I thought the pass rush and coverage was not consistently good. I can never be happy about a game when the defense is lacking, and that's how I felt they were today. If the 2nd half was 10 minutes longer I really think U of L would have had a great chance to win. That's kind of embarrassing to me, because UK is suppose to be the stable team and U of L is the team that is trying to rebuild. It just doesn't seem like there is a receiver at UK that can get open deep, all the receivers seem to catch the ball well but have trouble getting separation on the deep routes. I can defintely buy that. I think King could and will be able to with more time to some extent. But I don't think they have any really big burners on the team.
September 5, 201016 yr Cats got the win. Cats shot themselves in the foot with penalties at inopportune times...score should have been much worse. Thought the Cats got awful conservative in the second half as the play calling didn't mirror the first half...only on the final possession did they mix it up. Thought UK should have brought more pressure against the QB in the second half. I think we will see Monsour kicking soon...Tydlacka has too much on his plate, IMO. Good showing for the Cards. I think Strong may need to work on his late game clock management a little. Went to lockerroom at end of game with 1 timeout in his pocket. Should have been calling them much sooner than they did. I've got two...or three words for you... Vanilla Game Plan (or Vanilla Gameplan?) Joker's tribute to Bobby P.

I agree. I was quite pleased with the win. Liked what I saw from a defense with a lot of new faces...Locke and Cobb looked good, as usual. And, Hartline looked better than he ever has. Certainly, there's room for improvement, but that's nothing unexpected. Nice win for the Cats to kick off the Joker era.

If the game was 10 minutes longer?
September 5, 201016 yr Honestly, I don't know how anyone could possibly get a good read on either team from watching them play each other. That was a darned ugly game.

With the ROCKS win last night, just a perfect weekend!!!!! I completely agree, that was probably one of my favorite parts of the game. I sure do love how he sells the school all the way around. As for the game, the CATS did get conservative but I can kinda understand why. It's a rivalry game, @ Louisville, both Coach's first games. I can see why UK's offense was a little manilla in the second half I just hope it's not the start of a trend. I think Coach Strong for U of L is on the right path and I really hope he can get them back on the same path they were a few years ago, I don't own any Louisville gear but I'll chear for them any time they aren't playing UK.
September 5, 201016 yr I agree with Jim hard to get a read. I was happy w UK's defense because I worried about them but don't know if Lvilles offense is really bad. I was happy to see Cobb and Locke get off to a hot start. Cobb's catch was sick! He's one of the best players in the country IMO. The thing I was most impressed with was Hartline in the 1st half. Great to see the Cats win again and I think both coaches will do great if given time.
September 5, 201016 yr Just got home. Went out after the game and haven't had much time to really think about it rationally since I don't think sitting around in my buddy's living room and rehashing every possible game-changing moment really did a lot for me. Louisville dropped some passes that should have been caught. The long bomb to Pascley in the third quarter should have been caught and it was tough to see that one not completed. Kentucky missed some kicks that should have been made. I can look at this and see that Kentucky should have won by roughly the same margin but with more points on both sides. Certainly oversimplified, but as the weeks go by I'm sure that's how I'll remember it so I might as well adjust. That game wasn't much to look at so I think we're going to need to wait a few weeks to see what each team really has. Each team should be able to manhandle Eastern and Western next Saturday.

Trevathan was HORRIBLE in coverage thought. 83 was open everytime he was covered by him. Also, you missed the most important offensive player of the game IMO. Moncell Allen played wonderfully. He had some amazing blocks on every important offensive play (minues the Cobb run maybe).

I agree big time. Moncell Allen laid down some lumber on quite a few plays. Definitely an under appreciated but very important cog to UK running attack.
