September 4, 201016 yr Congrats to the Cats, and to Joker on his 1st win. Some very good adjustments by Coach Strong, and the Cards at the half. He will get the Cardinals back on track this season. Very good coach.
September 4, 201016 yr I was encouraged by the 2nd half of the game. One game at a time, Cards. Just get better each game! I think UL did a lot to hurt themselves today. Those things can be fixed, so on to a new day!
September 4, 201016 yr Four in a row... Cats looked sluggish in the second half, but that’s to be expected in the first game of the season. The important thing is the Cats won, at the new PJCS, with all those recruits on hand, Strong's first game and UL's largest crowd ever. Great day to be a UK fan...
September 4, 201016 yr I was glad to see the CATS defense look pretty solid, but then again this Louisville offense is not like the UL offense of old, so maybe not a good game to base judgement on. Hartline looked good and made smart decisions, Locke and Cobb both done what I expected them too do. The O this year will be okay as long as either Cobb or Locke doesn't go down. I look for Matthews to have a good year as well.
September 4, 201016 yr Kentucky definitely needs to work on some things thats for sure. They pretty much gave them their first 6 points of the game due to bad special team coverage and an inexcusable defensive offside penalty. 3rd and long also seemed to be a problem with us at times too as we didn't seem like we knew what to do. And don't even get me started on the kicking game....
September 5, 201016 yr Game MVP : Hartline, the smartest game Ive seen a UK QB play in a long time. He played very well. Probably his best game as a cat so far.
September 5, 201016 yr Loved the Cobb catch, then TD run on the following play. Failed to mention that.
September 5, 201016 yr I want to be positive but I just can't be completely happy with how UK played. U of L was the aggressor in this game, they just don't have much talent right now outside of their RBs IMO. U of L does play very hard though, and I think it looks like Strong has done a very good job this summer. They will be back, but they're far from it right now. UK started out extremely well and then went totally conservative. You'd have thought they were the underdog in this game and just wanted to hang on. UK went about a quarter without Randall Cobb touching the ball. I thought UK's defense was awful to be honest. Sure U of L didn't have great numbers, but then again they don't have the talent to run up and down the field on most BCS level teams. Froman had alot of time to throw today I thought. The secondary was awful. The run defense got worse as the game went on. And the kicking game really scares me. It wasn't all negative though for me. Hartline looked good, I still think they need to stretch the field more. Matthews and King looked really good today, throw it up to those big guys. Roark played well. Cobb and Locke were obviously excellent today. I thought the young TE Aumiller didn't look bad. The OL was not as bad as I had feared, but I think they have to improve some more as well if UK is going to make some noise in the SEC. I thought Evans and Trevathan played well. I'm not bashing the team overall, I just thought they could have played better and not have had the game get so close.
September 5, 201016 yr Cats got the win. Cats shot themselves in the foot with penalties at inopportune times...score should have been much worse. Thought the Cats got awful conservative in the second half as the play calling didn't mirror the first half...only on the final possession did they mix it up. Thought UK should have brought more pressure against the QB in the second half. I think we will see Monsour kicking soon...Tydlacka has too much on his plate, IMO. Good showing for the Cards. I think Strong may need to work on his late game clock management a little. Went to lockerroom at end of game with 1 timeout in his pocket. Should have been calling them much sooner than they did.
