Coach, if you will go back and read the posts, I think you will find some questioning if Beechwood is as good as they used to be. But, I assure you, you will not find any of those comments from me, in fact, I am arguing the contrary.

:lol: I agree! I am not sure where Ru is going with his comments in this thread but IMO Guru is off target with virtually all these comments - Beechwood slipping, Highlands mediocre and Dixie should have been handled by Beechwood.

 

He's been under a lot of stress lately and he hit his head the other day. He may be a little off.

You kind gentlemen are reading into my comments too much. Most of them were an if then statement.

 

On Highlands, and this needs its own thread, they are mediocre compared to a lot of recent teams but even at mediocre by Highlands standards they are still the favorite to win 5A. With that said, if HHS gets their run defense together and cut down on all the offensive mistakes they will be better than a mediocre Highlands team.

I can assure you, no one from Beechwood is looking or asking for any pity. Are they as good as they used to be? Can the 2010 team beat the 1994 team or even the 2004 team? Who cares it is 2010 and they need to win come November 2010. If they go 2-8, it does not matter. It would make for great conversation by those around the state. I am sure it would be like blood in the water around sharks.

 

Make no mistake, Beechwood will show up each and every week and expect to win. I for one will expect them to be playing at Thanksgiving once again. Just for the record, I am not a Beechwood coach.

I am a Beechwood fan and I can assure you that there has been grumbling in the stands starting last year and well before being blown out by teams Beechwood formerly beat regularly. How can five losses (most not even close) followed by 0-2 this year not be called slipping? It looks more like plunging to many of us. Talent runs in cycles and Beechwood just does not have the huge linemen that they had in the past. This years team has some speed and talent at the skill positions but the line is a bit undersized compared to past lines. I expect a below average season for Beechwood, but not for lack of effort. I have no doubt that next year will be better, but the numbers don't lie and we cannot play with the tougher teams on the schedule and certainly could not last year.

The line the last few years have been closer to the 6'0 and 200 pound range. Beechwood is still good but their size will prevent them from beating the CCH's and Dixies like they use to. This has nothing to do with coaching. They will always contend in Class A and I tip my hat to Coach Rash for having the schedule that he has.

 

Beechwood use to get out of district kids from Erlanger, Florence, etc and they just dont get the number of kids like they use to. I would argue that Covington Catholic does not get the numbers of kids from those areas either and that is why their talent has fallen off over the years. I think that the economy plays a huge part in this and families see that you their kids can attend a school like Ryle and be apart of a great program and get an education for free. In addition, their families can live in a nice home for less.

Those are great points. The challenge for Coach Rash and his assistants will be to adjust their style of play if they are going to continue not having huge linemen. I think a team can be very successful with smaller linemen, they just have to use a different style of play on D and on O. And given a little time, I think Coach Rash can and will make those adjustments.

Holy Cross tomorrow. CCH next Friday. I am going to stop beating my head against the wall in this thread till a week from Saturday.

 

Let me just repeat one more time though for the slip sliders - 2007 State Champion ... 2008 State Champion. Beechwood had not won back to back championships since 1996-97. Did the program slip in the ten years from 1997 to 2007? There is a lot of selective memory happening in this thread.
